fingernails --> bass --> RNP --> Tango24

I keep my right-hand fingernails a little longer than my fingertips so that when i'm playing the classical (nylon string) guitar I get a good attack sound.

I also play the bass (5-string Conklin groove-tools).

When I was playing it through a sansamp into the mackie1604 pre I noticed a little bit of highs because of my fingernails but it was pleasant.

Today as I was tracking bass for the first time with:
bass --> RNP --> Tango24

and

bass --> Sansamp --> RNP --> Tango24

My fingernail sounds obnoxious against the strings.

I'm happy that the RNP is bright and all, but now I'm going to have to EQ the bass.

The RNP isnt bright. Its just very very clear and open. You are just hearing stuff you might not have heard before. That, my friend, is the difference between cheap pres and a good one.

How does it sound on vocals? Any revelations there? You hear a lot of RNP this and RNP that on the boards but I'm not hearing a lot of oohs and aahs like the RNC. Maybe it's just too soon.

Interested in your perspective however.

Tubedude, I was checking another thread in which you mention you had picked up a Soundcraft M8. How is this working out for you and how do its pres compare to the RNP?

Great utilty pre's, but the RNP just has a certain clarity and fullness that nothing else in the range can seem to match, especially after layering. I know there is another thread I havent been following too closely that people are talking about the DMP being better. Dont fall for that crap.
The Soundcraft is a great little board. The RNP is a great little preamp. They blend nicely.
I have the M8 and 4 channels of RNP.
