Ok I hope I'm in the final stretch on this one.

I think it's pretty good but my mind is mush after 8 hours of retracking vocals.

The drums are thicker and the bass is tighter. The vocals are not to much louder because I started to really think it fits better.

Hopefully this will make me happy in the morning, I never can tell.

"Give Up"....at the bottom of the page

I left the last mix up for comparison.

Sorry if I have sickened anyone with this...I feel your pain.
Thanks in advance.

Jake,
The guitar level is too loud i think. It's overpowering the rest of the song, and the vocals especially, they are for the most part unintelligible. It sounds like it's skipping in a few places also...
0:27, The drum cymbols sound far away. Bass sounds ok, Nice tight ending. Overall, it's ok...the vocals just need to be brought up somehow, i'd start by lowering the guitar... I listened through some Event TR8's fyi. Give it a rest and keep trying.

I just updated with a vocal up version jason, thanks.

I always do that...sounds good........................vocal too low again!

I can't do much more with the cymbals as they were recorded with a single mic.

Yep, I still like it. For me the vox are the best part.
Is it getting any clearer mbuster? I know the mix is way heavier and full but are the dang vocals acceptable?

Thanks for enjoying....help!

Jake,
that's better. Like Jamal says, they seem loud to you but, you know what they are. For the rest of us it becomes work to try and make them out. This is better though.

Lemme' know what you think about it in the a.m... I think it kicks ass. The difference between your first post and this is pretty damned amazing. Again, I dug the first one, but...oh hell, you know what I mean.

Nothing's jumping out at me...I really think you're at the "preference" level from here on out on this one. I really like the less blurry vocal a ton...you sound like you give a shit, lol.

yeah, yeah...I know you don't.

You're at the point where I usually just can it for about a month and then come back to it with fresh ears and another tune or 2 under your belt to compare it with.

You rock

Thanks Chris, I'm deleting extra junk as we speak...I got the mix.

I'll be taking notes from this thread for use later. Thanks to all past and future participants in my mix adventures.

You gotta be shittin me! One mike? Nice job esp/ on the eighth notes between :44 and :53

I'd experiment w/ the vocals up 1.5-2.75 db. They get swallowed esp @ 1:26 ........er,.... no, to many places. BRING EM UP!!!

Why the fade in on the intro? I adjusted my amplitude @ :03 to compensate for what I thought was going to be a low mix and lost my hearing @ :08!

Technical questions: 1) What kind of mic did you use on the traps? Nice to my ears.
2) Is there an audible difference between 192 kbps & 160 or 128? (I'm a dummy w/ the wav conversions to MP3) My ears say no, but that could be due to too many gigs w/o plugs.

Compositionally, I'd have substituted at least one of your tonic chords for a subdominant breath of air and deception. The harmonic flow is way to predictable and redundant.

Maybe on your next creation you can utilize some of this as you have on your other songs @ NWR........go where you think it should go, but experiment w/ a few alternate harmonic destinations that match the melody but that are unexpected.

Drums are phat, bass is tight and clean, guitar nicely panned but could come down a tad.

Ralph

Wow great listen flat 9

Thanks man. I ran back in to fix some of that stuff you mentioned.
I think I got most of the vocal dips up.

I thought my ears were toast but here I am mixing in the middle of the night..

It's starting to kick ass now, thanks.

The guitar fade in will make much more sense in an album, sorry to scare ya.

I use a Yamaha MU50 for all my skin sounds and an ADK A51 on my cymbals.

I think that 192 sounds a bit better than 128 and my ears are usually in pretty good shape.

Compositionally I realize the potential to riff about in this tune and really avoided it. I chose to find what I considered the most listenable melody and incorporate it into the song to the utmost, it makes it fun to sing over.

Thanks for everything and I turned the guitars down a tad for ya.

Check out the all...new....ahh...

NEW MIX!

hi

I never heard your previous version but this is really well done to me. I think the drums and guitar are indeed ace. the vocals are really cool too. Did you more than double them. I would love to here some harmonies. Great ending! Anyway, just wanted to say v. cool. Erland

Oh listeing to a few others. You have a unique vocal style. i like Sleeping dog

I say call it good. Ithink the vocal level is just fine, any more and you'd miss the guitars. They gotta be up front. You're going to pick it apart everytime you listen to it anyway, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I think it rocks and I want you to sing on one of my songs sometime. We could do one about tying up a Texas lawyer and giving him the old "Chicago Shoe Shine"

Sounds good mbuster, thanks guys.

This one is in the done pile now.....I hope.

Clear out your mailbox dooood

Man, im bummed :(

i took a disc of "cut off the dag" out last night to this banquet and they were playing techno and the dj mixed it in and it was sooo0000 freakin hot. You think he coulda tossed me a bone and broungthen down tha levels a bit

i gotta undo all the mixes I passed through a compressor afterwards like you said.. but it's funny my friend brought me this hip hop track and it did it too his and it did wonders for him.

on the upside it did sound like techno and i've never made a techno song before. Maybe i'll change my name to like "eXstaZeeMastahJAMBEaaaTVCH!"

Yeah I remember the hotter gtrs in this, and the vocals were a little blurry. If it were mine, it be in the "done pile" for sure. Sounds damn great to me, that intro fade on the right guitar was spot on! Damn i had an original sansamp at one time..may have to get another one, i like that tone. What single mic did you use on the cymbals? They sound incredible! Damn nice recording, very easy on the ears..great song

Cool tune!
I think the vocals could be a little crisper, more like the rest of the tracks. Nice crunchy sound.

Ramones fan?
