hey everyone,

I'd really appreciate some advice regarding FILTERING. Here's my situation;

When listining through cds or vinyl I will often find potential samples that I want to use but in order to be able to use these samples, I need to learn how to FILTER out some of overlapping sounds like hi hats etc.

My questions are;

1) do many other music producers on here use FILTERING in a simalar way i.e. to eliminate unwanted sounds?

2) if so, what do you use to do it? software, hardware, other?

any additional FILTERING tips would be helpful too

thanks!

It can't really be done very well. If the sounds are very distinct from each other in the frequency spectrum, or very isolated onto opposing stereo channels, it's approachable. But most stuff is mixed together more than that, and you can't remove much of one sound without affecting all the others.

Yup, you can't isolate the sounds on a mixed cd. Why not just do your own? What sounds do you want to sample? If it's drums, they make cd's for acid that are just drums. They are everything from 1 hit loops on a single drum to entire measures.

thanks for the replies

the filtering that I'm referring to doesn't have to be perfect - often it might just be soem high hats over some piano or guitar and I want to minimise the hi hats or whatever.

any suggestions?

^^^^

thanks for that.

What about a software alternative though? anyone?
