Hello,

I'm cleaning up old files and I have a temp folder that is chocked full of AA tmp files. They seem to be mostly effects related. Are these necessary files to keep?

Thanks,
Rusty K

Delete 'em.

They are only for "undo" actions.

How are things in Austin?

Thanks lpdeluxe,

So they are just there from my last session using effects?

Things have been a little slow around here not withstanding SXSW but they are starting to pick up. My band used the time to record and EP....soon to be out. Give my regards to the "piney woods".

That's pretty much it. AA 2.0 and 3.0 are notorious for saving masses of unnecessary files (you didn't mention which version you are using). I've regressed to 1.5, which is easier to manage.

I found a great software for cleaning up all the messy files Audition leaves behind. It works for 20 days as a free trial then you have to pay $20 for it. I used with great success for the first day, but I haven't bought it yet. You just have to watch out that you didn't save some files from other sessions in the same folder as the undo files from the session you want to clean. You can end up removing stuff you may need. But that's not the programs fault, you should watch where your files are saved anyhow.

AFC is a great utility. I have it and use it all of the time. The guy who wrote it is a nice guy too... :)

AA 1.5 doesn't really need it, because the saving protocol is different. 2.0 and later make you save everything before you start, while 1.5 and earlier asks you what to save at the end of the session. As a result, 2.0/3.0 saves everything in sight and you end up with all the alternate takes, punch ins and whatnot and HUGE files associated with any given session. There are two ways to get rid of all the extraneous stuff: one is to tell AA to delete unused clips when you open a session, and the other is to use the utility (which I have, by the way). Either one is more or less intrusive in the workflow (the utility -- at least, the 2.0 version -- requires you to open it separately for each session).

I was able to use a 40GB audio drive with 1.5, but when I went to 2.0 I installed a 400GB because I was constantly running out of space. As I said, I have regressed back to 1.5 (compatibility with earlier versions of AA and CEP, more familiar mixdown procedure, easier -- for me -- saving protocol) and it works fine.

lpdeluxe,

Got it! I was wondering just what the previous posts were talking about with respect to all the file saving because I hadn't noticed that being a problem for me.....just the temp file being full of effects files. You solved that one for me already.

Thanks,
Rusty K

Audition does not delete clips when you tell it to close unused files, it just kills the link to the session. I don't think there is any way at all to actually delete those files on a mass scale other than using that program. If you know of another way let us know and I'll save myself 20 bucks.

Load up "your session", run DELETE ALL UNUSED FILES first.
Then, go to folder "YourSessionName_Recorded", highlight all files and press DELETE button. You'll get a message "File FileName.wav is used by blablablabla" and you need to press Jump over it and use the same application for all used files. It will send all unused files to recycle bin.

You need to repeat this procedure for other sessions of yours or just load several sessions at once.
This method is not the same as mentioned program but it works if you are consequent in your work, which means that you use folders files for corresponding session only.

OH I see, interesting, I'll give it a try later. Thanks.
