Okay, here is a pre-emptive "ha-ha", for when someone answers "mouthwash" or the like...

Seriously though, I was jamming with these guys the other night, my eyes watered and I gagged when I got close to the mic to do some back-ups.

I know this is a pretty common thing, stinky mic, but is there some sort of product that can wrestle this odourous problem? How does everyone else deal with it?

Does Fabreeze make stuff for microphones?;)

Please, my olfactories can't take it anymore!

Thanks guys.
J.

depends, is it a dynamic or a condenser? dynamics i would just unscrew the head, rinse the head out, and scrub the grill with a toothbrush (don't EVER brush your teeth with this brush though).

Don't get me started on Febreze. I had this bad stink all over my home that wouldn't go away from a stinky visitor and I got a bottle of Febreze and squirted the whole place down. I let it dry as directed and now everything, including my cats, smells like a cross between Ozium and Pepper Spray.
If you can get the grill unscrewed a soap/water wash of this piece followed by an acetone wash should remove any stink and leave the piece dry enough for reinstallation.
Good Luck!

at a gig i let this sick guy in another band use my mic that i brough because they didnt. he was deathly ill he shouldnt have been playing. so the next day i unscrewed the grill and foamon the inside and let it soak in a 50/50 alcohol/water solution for a while. then rinsed it, and i assume that should work with a stinky mic.

p.s.- what does the mic smell like? are you sure one of the band guys' girlfriends were lonely one night?

Hehe...

Well, I'm gonna hafta be somewhat descrete, 'cause they own the mics and I'm just filling in for the bassist for a show that they are playing on the 30th (he fractured his wrist). I'll hafta put it nicely that their microphones smell. Or perhaps I'll send them all out for beer, and covertly break in to the space and clean their mics for them....

thanks for the info though, I'm sure it will come in handy in the future with my own mics too...:)

hey just tell them their mikes stink. And start dleaning yours out. Your doing them a favor playing for them and cleaning the mike so dont sweat it. Thats a bad deal really.
