Hi everyone,

I write songs and play some keyboard. Recently got the trial for Adobe Audition 3.0, because I would like to create music for my songs and since it's my first time doing this kind of thing and I am not great at computers, there are a lot of things I haven't been able to figure out or get the answers for.
If you can help me answer some of these questions I would greatly appreciate it.

1. I recorded the song in a small digital recorder and I was hoping there might be a way to convert it into a MIDI file or something else in order to be able to create the music for it, is such thing possible?
2. Will Adobe Audition be a good software for this, meaning creating music for songs or is one of the other software like Cakewalk or PG Music Power better?
3. If I can't make a digital WAV file into MIDI in order to create the music, what exactly do you recommend I do to make the music without using all the instruments and record vocals? In other words, how do I get the music in there first so that later I can record the vocals? or can I do it all at the same time?
4. When they say on the website I can record it first, what kind of recorder do I need?
5. What is the easiest way to start doing this?

Thanks so much in advance for any help you can give me!!

Yo X Girl! Welcome to the board! I think no one is answering your questions because you are so confused that your questions don't make any sense, and they are afraid to admit that they don't have a clue what you are talking about. For example, Adobe Audition is a music transcription program. It produces written music from an audio file, and in my experience, it really only works for a melody line, and doesn't understand chords very well. It is useless for guitar, but has some uses for keyboard.

A MIDI signal isn't an audio signal, but a series of computer commands that access sample files of audio data, and tells a recording software program where to put them on a tempo map.

Let's try to simplify this so we can understand what the hell you are trying to do. First of all, what instrument *do* you play? In other words, we need to know what the capabilities of your keyboard are. Next, when you say "all the instruments", what instruments are you talking about, exactly? You refer to recording vocals over the music, so does this mean you are a singer? You said you recorded the song on a recorder. OK, what kind of recorder did you use, and how did you do it? When you say you write songs, do you mean yhat you actually are writing music, or do you play by ear?

Do you see the problem? You did not give us enough data to figure out what you have got, what you can do, and exactly what you are trying to do with it. You need to tell us quite a bit more about the music you play, the tools you already have, and particularly, the capabilities of your computer and its soundcard. There really are people here who want to help you, but I think you have overwhelmed them.

As near as I can tell, you are trying to figure out how to use your keyboard as a MIDI controller to access samples of other instruments, and use the keyboard to play them, recording them into a recording software program. This means that you will need recording software, a keyboard and soundcard with MIDI capability, and a bunch of samples, which may or may not come with the software program.

If I understand you, I am not the guy who can answer your questions, because I am not a kwyboard guy and I really don't use MIDI. There are quite a few people here who do that, and I bet they'll help you if they can understand the question. Good luck-Richie
