Hi Folks,
Wah Wow (But Is It Art?) will be on the back burner for a while until I get a vocal update.
Here is a song recorded at the same time with the same set up & FX.
I was striving to get an effect that would give an impression of a 'cello, (an effect mainly triggered by the bottom E string or root note of the chord I was playing & which I called - rather hopefully 'Cello Focus). This was before Kim lashed out & bought me a real one.
The effect is very strong but again was desired.
Again guitar mic'd & blended with effect live & to tape. There's some distortion as I wasn't watching the levels INTO the computer to closely. There's no distortion on the tape though it does run hot most of the way & into the red occasionally.
This one has no title as yet nor a melody or vocal.
Comments on the basics as well as the song & it's structure would be most welcome.
Are the FX of any value to the song (tamed of course)?
1. BASS (compressed)
2. DRUMS & a guitar bounced together & in mono)
3. GTR 1 of stereo split with the FX (compressed)
4. GTR 2 of stereo split with the FX (compressed)

Thanks in advance.

Hello rayC!
I was not active lately with my comments 'cause of my job and other everyday stuff going on.
I did not comment your Wah song. I had nothing to add since other gave their comments.

I did not like guitar sound on this one.
It's too difficult to explain why.
Maybe because there were no vocals or any solo instruments and rhythm guitars
worked like solo instruments on this preliminary mix. Everything will change after I'm sure.
Cello is sounding OK. It will fit well I think after vocals are in the mix.
Bass is nice, Drums too!

Hello sikter,
Long time no read.
I know what you mean - nothing to lead the song so the thin guitars end up as proxies for something to follow.
Thanks for offering your comments.

Hey man... Listening as I write here... It's all seems kinda mushed together...I agree i dont' care much for the guitar..I think that the guitar and the 'swell guitar/cello' thing are not only fighting for the same sonic space but also fighting in the panning as well... it's all stacked on top of each other...I do like the cello effect thing...but could benefit from some clever paning and spaceousness...

As far as the tune itself goes, not bad but needs some kinda change/hook in it...all in all not bad...and vox. lead will help it move along better as well....

Nice start...the tune should wind up being pretty cool. While I hear individual instruments, the guitar and bass seem to need something...maybe some eq on the bass would seperate it a bit more from the guitar. That's my first thought on this. Nothing bad, but tune seems as though it could use a bit more low end.

The beginning of another good tune Ray. The cello-effect guitar is very cool - don't think I've heard that type of effect. What was used to get that long sustaining sound? Sounds pretty well levelled on my PC speakers. The only thing I would try is panning the effected sound wider l/r for separation purposes. The rest sounds good so far....will wait for updates...

PS - does this guitar have the same pickups?

:) :D :) :D :)

Gerry - sorry - I checked that one out too - no such luck. Good price though.
The p'ups on mine are chromed screws potted in black with a chrome casing.
Some Heitt/Audition, Teisco & Stewart guitars from the early 70's/late 60's have the same p/ups as mine - pretty generic. the Conquerer came after mine royal artist I think. I'll put a picture up tomorrow when I find it along with the settings for the effect.
I think, given your, Dogman,Perdicament & Sikter's comments I might go back & completely re record this one so that I can have control over the 'Cello Focus effect. I spent an hour & found the original chord chart - even had EQ settings etc for my 4 track & drum machine settings too. Wow, was/am I anal retentive or what?
Thanks gents. Given Gerry's recent success with re recording I'll take the plunge - It'll give me something to do while the builder demolishes & rebuilds.
