Just another guy, really.
I keep moving DOWN in Fender's line, to smaller and smaller amps- the progression so far has been:
'77 Twin Reverb (now gone)
'77 Pro Reverb
'77 Deluxe Reverb
(Actually, got the Deluxe before the Pro...) I find even the Deluxe has more power than I need, ever- if I need more, can mic it, 'natch.
Been lusting after a Princeton Reverb or Princeton for months. but I don't think I can afford one. I am seeing Vibro Champs (gotta have tremolo, just gotta- part of my signature sound) at some attractive prices. The Fender Amp Field Guide shows it as having only one power tube- and I have been told that the little Monkey-Wards Model 6000 amp (tube complement: 35W4, 6V6, 5_csw [?], 12AU6) I have will never be a quiet amp, because it's design, using only one power tube, has a certain amount of inherent noise. Is this true, and/or true of the Champs? Or is the Princeton, which seems to be the lowest-power Fender amp with two power tubes, the way to get lower power AND quiet operation?
Oh, if somebody wants to trade a Princeton Reverb for a Pro Reverb, let me know.
