Just wanna know what you think of a Fender Mexican Strat?
Is this a quality guitar or just some budget junk??????
Please, like to know the ups and downs of this guitar!

I just sold one of these after having it for about a year and a half. It most certaintly wasn't not junk. Personally I thought it was very well made. It felt and played fantastic. My only critism would be the pickups. I thought they were quite weak and thin. But, pop in a couple of seymour duncans or something else and imho, you've got a really great guitar for still less then half of what an American model cost ya. Mind, you don't get the *prestige* of owning a real American Strat, but its all in whats important to you I guess.

I had one of those for a long time. I loved that guitar. It was probably my favorite guitar, even while I owned a PRS, SRV signature, and an Ibanez Prestige at the same time.
I did put some Texas Specials in it, shielded it and all that. The stock pickups were on the thin side, even for singles, but after doing some work, it was a good player, and sounded quite nice, regardless of what some folks may think about non US built guitars. That neck was just about perfect for my hand.
They're great for the cash involved. In fact, I'd rather have one of those than an American Standard, due to the price.
Good Luck!

i had one, it was the second guitar ive ever owned... it was worth every penny the neck was awesome i loved it, i only sold it becuase i have 2 americans... but its definetly worth the price... i go a fat strat, the pick up was decent but none the less worth the price...

find one that ....

feels good to you and you'll have a guitar for life... i've had 2 just one now though and they're awesome ...and one thing you have just a lil bit of money so you don't have to worry about depreciation if you want to change it i.e. pickups, color ...there is also a lil higher level of fender that is mexican too the Jimmy Vaughn strat is actually mexican also some of the reissues are too ...you can't go wrong i would take the mexi fenders over any other brands "2nd line" :D

i still have mine since 1996 its a good guitar but yeah the pickups are crap and i had a maple neck and it has some wear on it but its an awsome guitar i love mine to death!

Worn maple necks rock! Wear it down a little more!

I've had a red Mexican Strat since 1998. I changed the pickups to my taste.. did some copper shielding and bam.. instant boner. My main instrument is a Fender YJM and occasionally my early 70's Les Paul Custom if I need a thicker rythm track. My Mexican Strat is part of the family as well and I WON'T be selling it.

Those Mexican Strats sure aint Squires.. and that's for damn sure.

I have 2 stats, a vintage strat and a mex strat. I agree that the mex strats need a pick up up grade, but I see them "used" in music stores around here alot. 2 weeks ago there was a used candy apple red mex strat with texas special pickups and a turtle shell pickguard, priced at $200. You can't go wrong for that price. I love mine and I play it hard...mex strats are tough guitars.

yeah they're crap ....but about pickups i sold my tele to my wifes cousin and he freaked at how hot the pups were....

My 2 Mexican Strats ae both the deluxe Powerhouse model. It has the American Standard pickups, a 12db mid boost like the Clapton model, a dummy coil for noiseless pickup operation in all positions, vintage trem, med jumbo frets, vintage tuners. Anyways, it's a great mexican that comes ready to play out of the box. I love the pickups in these, thats why I have two of them.

H2H

I have a MIM Strat made in 2001. It has a poplar body but I think they use a harder tonewood now such as alder (or ash?). I'm curious what the tone difference is...

In any case, I love this guitar. Fast maple neck and well put together. I changed the crappy pickups for Kinman Blues. They cost almost as much as the guitar, but they got rid of the unbearable hum and they sound so much better even than the stock pups you find in American Strats, or most other single coils for that matter. I also made a mod to the volume knob, so the highs don't roll off when you turn the volume down.

The only problem with it is that tuning is very unstable when using the vintage style tremolo. As long as you don't use the whammy bar it stays in tune very well though. Overall a great guitar that should last a lifetime or two.

here ya go ...

this is how i have mine setup get a Fender LSR roller nut ,locking tuners and have it setup and th whammy will not go out of tune ....i mean VH inspired dive bombs will go right back in tune ...it will be worth every penny spent :D

My Mexi Strat sounded great right off the shelf except that it was noisy when I tried to record direct. I ended up putting Kinmans in it and now it's my favorite axe.

Play a bunch of them if you can and pick the one that feels best. Quality used to be a hit or miss thing with guitars that came out of the Mexico factory, although in recent years the products seem to be a lot more consistent.

I bought a "satin" mexi strat about three months ago and love it. The finish wasn't exactly what I wanted, kind of a matte dark purple with a black guard, but for $199 new at Guitar Center I'm not complaining. I'm a bass player but wanted something to record ideas with to share with my band mates, this fits the bill perfectly. My guitar player plays a beautiful 68 strat and he gives mine a nod of approval.
