Fender American Jazz Bass

Are the electronics the same in new American Jazz basses as they are in new Deluxes? Are the differences mostly cosmetic? Would the differences be noticable in a home studio?

The Deluxe Jazz has active electronics and humbucking pickups. The American Jazz has passive electronics and single coil pickups. They sound quite a bit different. The American Jazz also has a graphite-enforced neck.
