If anyone would like to offer feedback on this project I sure would appreciate it.

It was recorded using a Boss BR-1600 and a Studio Projects C1 LDC. We plugged the electric guitar straight in and used one of the built in effects for the overdrive.

Sounds pretty good. The vocals could use some compression and then lower the overall level at the begining (before the distorted guit).

The distorted guitar is the weakest point. I'd rather see the part done clear or left out as compared to the tone it has. I think this song calls for less gain on the distorted guitar my self.

The song is cool and the mix is pretty good with the exception of the electric guit and some minor adjustments.

Good job.

Thank you very much for your comments. I appreciate them.

What do you hear in the vocals that make you say they need some compression? Not that Im doubting what you say I just want to learn what to listen for.

Thanks for the comments on the guitar too. It actually started out as a dobro part but neither of us were good enough players to pull it off.

The vocal on words like grab in the intro - have a sudden peak just the explosive nature of some words/syllables/letters.
the distorted guitar needs to be rerecorded -the tone is pretty awful. Either do it clean, use an overdriven amp or find a more realistic filter.
The vocals are too loud I think.
Have a listen to Pavlov Dog's 1st album for some ideas about distorted guitar for this sort of song.
Oh, good song, some good performances just that guitar really.

Sort of like Ray said. The vocals over all are to loud but, just loud enough for the softer words to be heard decent. Compression would even out the levels on the vocals allowing you too turn them down some and still hear everything.

Nice acoustic sound, it's very nice. Whats the guitar??

Yup, vocals need to be compressed...you could maybe have your singer back away from the mic and try it that way.

Nice vocal overdubs. Electric guitar is how I expected when ya said you used a built in effect, but it's easily fixable. You really couldn't mic an amp for it? You might get away with the lead in the centre, but the panned distorted chords suck. For what it's worth, I've recorded tons of distorted guitar like that one, you really can't avoid micing an amp.

Thank you all so much for the comments. I will go back to the electric guitar and try to find an amp to borrow and do it again or just toss it out and see if he wants to try a different approach.

I will also try playing with and reading about compression on the vocals.

Thank you again, its feedback like this that makes all the difference for someone that is in the early learning stage. - Wayne
