I'm new here and I'm also new to music. Let me begin by saying that I am a complete beginner when it comes to both writing and producing music. Essentially I suck. I've never had any formal training in anything relating to music, I've never owned any gear besides my laptop and a pair of monitoring headphones. I do all my producing using FL Studio. I began with mixing construction kits, eventually I got bored of that and wanted to actually create something. Since I have a knack for playing guitar I decided to dive into learning a bit of music theory, which I took with me to the piano roll. This is basically the result of years of mixing construction kits and my new found knowledge of music theory, I finally wrote an original track. It is inspired by house music, uplifting trance and rock. I haven't come up with a name for it yet. The file is an mp3 at 96kbps, if you enjoy the track, drop me a message and I can provide higher quality formats. The file is attached. Thank you guys in advance for making such an awesome site and also thank you for any advice and/or criticism given on this.

Sounded fine to me. I'm not a big fan of trance, so I didn't listen to the whole thing. But it seems like you kept up introducing new things to keep up listener interest. That's not easy to do in a 10 minute instrumental.

A couple sounds you used were a little on the harsh side. Some other low end sounds were a little rumbly. But they're probably the right ones to use for this genre. Just thought I'd mention it in case you want to review that.

I don't know enough at the genre either, but I can agree with TripleM's points. I actually enjoyed the song, played the entire thing. There are a couple of rumbles throughout the song, no big deal though. The high frequencies didn't bother me as much, but I could definitely hear them more than I probably needed to. Are you mixing on headphones or monitors?

I've mixed this on a pair of Panasonic RPHT360 monitor cans, they're not that great but I'm on a very tight budget. I agree that the high frequencies stand out and I believe that it is mostly the hats and cymbals. It could also be due in fact that I cut a good chunk of low frequencies using an EQ on the master bus. The rumble I don't hear since I really don't have another system to reference to. It coild potentially be caused by the automation of low pass filters on several track or maybe it's the bass track in general. If it would be at all possible for me to receive any sort of advice concerning how to fix the remaining problems in this mix. Be also aware that the master bus contains a limoter, a compressor, stereo expander and EQ if that helps.

You dont have a car or cheap headphones or a friends house you can check it out on? Granted its not monitors, but youll be able to hear the rumble.
