Was wondering what you studio heads thought about the current setup I'm running and was wondering if any of you could give me suggestions on if I'm missing anything vital.

I do acoustic recording.. Cajon and djembe drum recording
As well as RNb/hip hop..

Win 7 pro
Amd phenom ii x4 3.3 ghz
16g ram
Dual 22 monitors ( of course Samsung )

Safire pro 24 dsp
Sennhesier studio monitor headphones
Audio technical studio headphones
Hs50m ref monitors

Nt2a
Pair nt5
Pop filters obv and boom stands

Wondering what my next important purchase should be...

Debating between a reflexion filter or sound treatment I'm in a small room maybe 10x10 in a basement 2 walls are cement and one wall is wood and the wall where my computer sits against is a blanket separating the other part of my basement.. My mic sits ( don't make fun of me!!) in between box springs.. Pretty mishmash but it does a better job than it sitting in the middle of the room... So my question is.. Wich purchase would be more beneficial to my set up... A reflexion filter or sound treatment? Also if there is anything else I missed please let me know!! Thanks

what are you trying to record? do you have everything you need to record the drum stuff and rap stuff?

if you have more instruments you want to play, i'd probably get more mics.

you have a good interface, a nice set of SDC, and a vocal mic. the rest depends on what you're going to do with.

Well I've just been having a hard time deciding what would be my next most beneficial purpose as far as recording vocals.. Sound treat, ment or a reflexion filter

SOUND TREATMENT!!! I don't think you can even call it a studio if there's no acoustic treatment. Hell, even film and some dance studios have treatment, let alone Audio Recording/Mixing studios. I'm talking for both the area you record your instruments/vocals in, and the area where you mix. It should have been your first purchase actually. Even before you purchased the parts to make the box spring mic stand. Couldn't help myself, sorry. :P

Most around here will probably tell you to build/purchase some bass traps before you move onto any other acoustic treatment. Best of luck.

Studio monitors? A headphone system? Room treatment? Cableing (something that's often overlooked but can be expensive)?

Lmao I have a pair of hs50ms Yamaha. They bode well. Crystal clear entry level monitors.. Not great for hip hop not dub step but I a b to hd speakers. Ill get pictures up of my setup so I can get some more answers... also I do have studio headphones and alanced cabling throug out.. So acoustic treatment it is. The only annoying Thing in my room it is setup so awkward that itd be hard for me to utilize bass traps the way they should be... So I think I'm going to go for getting acoustic wall treatment As a first step...

Cableing (something that's often overlooked but can be expensive)?

tell me about it! i racked up my whole setup before realising i'd overlooked a shed load of looms to connect everything together  the frustration was it was the third thing on my list of gear to buy but had gotten far too excited by everything else on the list that i had overlooked it like a massive idiot. Nearly £100 and a lot of favours later i had everything i needed.

buying cables isn't glamourous but it's essential.

To add my 2 cents on top of what everyone else has suggested, i'd say add an SM57 to the list. not an essential at all but for recording djembe and a cajon it should give you a bit more punch than just the NT2a

Whoops I missed that you had monitors.

Mics for other instruments depending on what you're gonna record.

Bass traps.

Ya Know I was actually debating between sm57s, c-2s 603s and nt5s to set up an xy sequence to record acoustic guitar and that would give me dual use for djembe/Cajon recording... Was really set on the sm57s until I found a pair of nt5s for $200!!! But would you say the sm beats out the nt5 for drum recording??

Does the 57 beat the hell out of the nt5's; tbh, for djembes and other percussion, not really, although i'd go for the NT2a instead of the NT5's on djembe as LDC's in general sound more solid on percussion. alot of the time with bongos, djembes, and cajon's i go with an LDC (normally the sE Titan) and either a 57 or D112 either close to the skin/front or under the skin/off the sound hole on a cajon just for more defined "thunk" ("attack" may be a better work, but "thunk" seems more appropriate to me :D) but it never really makes up the bulk of the sound and is just there for definition as a well placed LDC does the trick 9 out of 10 times
