Hi,

I've been recording acoustic stuff for a few years now and never really needed to eq (I had a good teacher on mic placement!) :)

Now I'm doing full band work, I have heard that different eq's have different qualities. Which software eq's do you prefer?? (Skip the financial worries, let's go crazy!)

***I'd prefer to stay in the digital domain, as I am still new to this and I would prefer to keep tweeking.***

The pultec and precision EQ's on the UAD card are pretty nice. Some of the waves channel strip's are decent as well. Hands down my favorite EQ so far though (for non HD or TDM applications) is the Sonalksis EQ. It's laid out and sounds more like an EQ form a console than any other I have used. It's one of the few digital EQ's that I don't hesitate to use.

Thanks for that Xstatic. I've found a demo download and it seems to do the trick nicely. Just need to buy it to stop that damn beeping now!

Yeah. The sonalksis eq is fantastic. Already my tracks have more space and still sound natural... Great recommendation!

Have you tried there compressor?? If it's to the same quality as the eq I may need to demo that too.

You know, I haven't tried it yet, but I have been meaning to. I certainly loved the EQ, so maybe I should go download the compressor demo. Maybe they will get some more of my money:D

Amen brother!

Just spend my initial eq money on some Focusrite gear... Ouch!

;)

Voxengo Gliss EQ. I think it's Voxengo.com. You can download a free demo. It's a dynamic EQ much like the sonalksis. Makes a huge difference in keeping things natural-sounding.

Seriously good sounding EQ for about $75 I think.

I tried it at the same time as the Master Q and it sounded very nice but i personally preferred the Master Q. The voxengo stuff is excellent value though and they do some good bundles.

The Kjaerhus Gold series eq is another decent one I tried but again I didn't like it as much as the master Q.

There's a lot to be said for downloading a load of demos and seeing which one you like best.
