Favorite mic for recording a Bassman RI and a tele?

Any tele/bassman RI (preferably LTD) users care to comment on their favorite mics (under $300) for recording the two? And while we're at, mic placement?

An American Standard or American deluxe tele?

Sm57 close mic off axis, or if the room is really good then any decent LDC 4-6' back. The mic I did not like on a guitar rig (not as much as a 57 anyway) was the e609. I loved it on snare, though. It was a little thinner sounding than the 57. Liv rong bought it and I think he likes it.
