Some will call it noisy, but to me, the Vinnie Vincent Invasion album titled "All systems go" has got to be the best sounding thing I have ever heard.

There are literally dozens of guitar and vocal overlays. It is similar to Boston's sound. HUGE. Only huger!

It's a rare CD, as it came in as hair metal was going out.

I also love that!!!!!! just stunning
you should try "Hero" a jet li film, again with fantastic solo cello (i think by yoyo ma as well) - beautiful!
Yeah, I have that movie on DVD, but I don't have the soundtrack CD, so I had to disqualify myself from listing that one, as I have not heard what the CD itself sounds like (yet). What a GREAT movie,- I like that movie even better than CTHD, though I'm still partial to the actual music from CTHD. But the audio overall on "Hero" is quite good as well. In that scene in the rain with the GO! players (or whatever that was, I don't remember now),the audio definitely magnified the mood of the scene wonderfully.

Thanks for the tips, I'll have to check out those other ones you mentioned as well.

I like anything by kcearl....the way he badly mixes midi is borderline genius....i think there will come a time when all kick drums will be panned to the hard left :)

I actually liked the last muse album for production...i read about its recording in their own studio in Italy and they used some pretty nice kit for the recording and its mixing on the premises...sure its compressed to hell but i love the almost 80s power drums and his guitar (when he remembers to play it) sounds great

Sorry I sad CDs but I meant recordings in general :p
Forgive me I've only been around since 1993 :p

Wax cylinders ?

P.S - I enjoy reading all the replies.

Prodigy: The Fat of the Land
Fun, great production.

Chemical Brothers: Come With Us
Always humbling.

Das Ich: Antichrist
Just wonderfully artistic, the musicianship is top notch, so is the production, engineering, mastering. Never fatiguing.

Juno Reactor: Shango
Especially the version of "Pistolero" on that album. Overall, great fusion of electronica/goa trance with world/tribal music. One of my all time favorites. Great to see his stuff being featured in movies.

Why stop there? You should put the kick in the rear surrounds. And have a fat lady sing through the subwoofer. :D

Which BTW begs the question. Is a fat singer considered part of the acoustic treatment in the room

One of the best sounding albums or Cd's out their is Charlie Daniels Decade Of Hits. The highs are crisp, the mids are not ear piercing, and the lows are nice. It's amazing what good music, producing, and mastering can do for an album.

Pet Sounds The Beach Boys (Brian Wilson's masterpiece.) For the era was stellar. As many bounces as Brian did the sound quality didn't suffer much. The man is an absolute genius....

Imagination Brian Wilson. Possibly one of the best sounding Cd's to come out in a long time, both in 2 channel stereo or 5.1 DTS.

Agree on Brian and Pet Sounds. Here's a picture that I shot of him a few years ago. It's the main picture on his Wikipedia page now and has been for quite some time. :) More are here: http://www.pbase.com/rking401/brian_wilson&page=all

You know Brian? If their was ever an entertainer I wanted to meet it would be him. I remember in particular I had only been married a few months and lost my job. I came home and put on Lay Down Burden and cried like a little baby. I know Brian wrote that song for his brother Carl that died not long before. Nice pics BTW

I WISH I could say that I know him. I was just lucky enough to see him perform in the Gibson Guitars tent at the CES show. The tent had a mob of about 150 or so lucky people in it just lingering around and enjoying Brian and later, Joan Jett. I was able to get close enough that I could have pulled him off his stool if I wanted to. I tried to do some pix from various vantages, but most of them were pretty close up. Here's Joan (from further away): http://www.pbase.com/rking401/joan_jett_and_the_blackhearts&page=all

The CD 'Round About Midnight by Miles Davis is one that I could listen to over and over, and I have.

It is about as perfect jazz as I've heard. Some music asks "is this jazz?", but this CD is definitely, without question, jazz.

To me it's pretty much the Holy Grail as far as what small jazz combo should sound like.

Also, all of the Fiona Apple albums are amazing.

Sidenote, Kill em all truly is wonderful considering the budget and the experience the guys had at the time
I think ill go listen to that one now :D

:drunk:

Also, all of the Fiona Apple albums are amazing...

I was listening to "Fast As You Can" the other day and man she is a unique talent. Talk about musically strong. Reminds me of Laura Nyro for some reason.

'Basie & Beyond', produced/arranged by Quincy Jones and Sammy Nestico, mixed by Tommy Vicari.

Drums to do die for.

Iron Maiden's 'A Matter of Life and Death', has a terrific mastering job::: It wasn't mastered at all. As such it's one of the most listenable metal albums I've bought in years.

You guys remember a band called Fastway?

How about Coney Hatch?

I remember liking em at the time but can't recall anything they did. Not sure if that's a good thing.
Except for Coney Hatch did one called "Monkey Bars" that was kinda cool.
