This is a song we are working on, it is still in the conceptual stages. I am sure it will evolve a little as we play it, and we will we record it for 'real' later this year. We lost our drummer and our singer a few months back, so the drums are programmed on cubase's LM-4 and there are no vocals.

"Fantasy Fuel"

Not exactly sure how to classify our sound, but our influences are bands like Corrosion of Conformity, Down, and Black Label Society (Zakk Wylde's band)

Thoughts/Impressions or Feedback?

It sounds like it could be a pretty cool song once you record it correctly. I would ditch that beginning part it sounds horrible. There is quite a bit of clipping and distortion. The whole mix is pretty overcompressed. Do you have any lyrics for this tune yet?

The intro is EQ'd that way intentionally for effect, trying to give the effect of listening to a different song (of ours) out of a shitty little radio - then 'Fantasy Fuel' kicks in. Notice the rest of the song is minus the clipping and wierd thin but boomy EQ. I kinda thought that would be obvious to everyone..lol, but if no one gets that maybe we should just ditch that.

Yea, we have some lyrics but they are not finished yet. The lyric concept is about being with a woman so hot, that you want to freeze or preserve that visual in your mind so you can use it as "Fantasy Fuel" later.

Not really there is quite a bit of clipping and digital distortion through out the whole song. Did you run the whole track through Soundforge?

ya that intro is obviously completely intentional ... sort of "telephone" effect ... sounds good
i generally prefer a clickier kick for this type of music. the snare sounds strange too, like its got a delay and too much reverb or something? it needs a sharper attack and more of a crack in my opinion. toms sound sick, especially the lower ones. oh's sound good too.
the guitars sound sweet. huge sound, nothing to offer there. the tone in the mini solo right before 3 mins is good too.
overall i think it sounds good.
btw im a drummer so i tend to pick apart drums more than anything else.
thats my advice tho ... hope it helps

Sounds pretty cool. This is definitely a song where the vocal would make it or break it. I'd like to hear the finished product.

Is anyone else getting clipping? Because I ran it through wavelab's analysis and it never got above -.2....

You know I kinda like a clickier kick too. Not completely clicky, but more than this anyways, and also I noticed when I listened to it on my PC speakers here at work that the snare sounds funky. Badly chosen sample I guess.
Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks, I am working on the vocals for it, but it is a slow process because of the way the song flows, plus I want to keep the lyrics kind of dark, not necessarily superficial or light spirited as the title might suggest.

Did you not notice that he said they were samples or were you taking about that midi cymbal sound. Also even if you missed him say it was programed its more than obvious... especially for a drummer...

I thought the drums sounded as fake as they are, but it's necessarily bad or anything. I think the main thing you came here for was in regards to the tune itself and I think its a KICK ASS TUNE. Especially when the vocals are in. The lyrics sound like they will match the song PERFECTLY. A real drummer would really help to tie this together in the recording mode. It kinda sounds too cheesy right now for my tastes. Great tune though.

Reminds me of the good old stuff.

Adobe Audition shows it clipping like a mutha.

Love the tune. Reminds me more of COC than Down. Has more of a Pepper influence to it. I think the clipping is from smashing it, and then limiting it. The screenshots are of teh same thing, just different time views. To clip, it doesn't neccessarily have to go over the 0db mark. Notice all the tops are chopped? That means it clipped somewhere. Maybe not at the final stage. As an example, take a part, and it can be at say -6db. Compress it, and tehn limit it to -20 db. It will chop the top off everything. I believe then you wind up with "Digital clipping". It won't make nasty pops, but sounds distorted. Try mixing everything a little lower, a few db per track. The mix sounded pretty even for the parts. Just need to lower teh overall volume.

I like the begginning. I understand the AM radio eq. King Of The Rotten starts this way...
Anyway, work on teh mix a bit, as this is a decent tune. If you need some nasty, Lemmy style vocals, I can probably help.... :D

I like the effect of the intro - all we need was a roll across the dial & you've revisted a classic - Oh Geno "For God's sake - burn it down"- Dexy's Midnight Runners et al.
The bass is just a thud, can't you carve out a bit of top for it as well?
I like the riff but not the little squealy bit tagging it.
The lead line sounds better than the generic effect on the riff though - something like the guitar on Death On 2 Legs would suit better or Custard Pie.
What happened at 1.39?
I look forward to hearing the finish product - though vocals will prove a dangerous addition to the mix - make or break.
Cheers
