fake ludwig drums?

Unfortunately I am no expert. I think you should try and contact ludwig and get someone from their camp involved.
With that said, I think the pictures you have should be evidence enough. Anyone with have a brain could look at those and see that they are in fact not anything like what they are claiming to be.

I bet that hole covered up with the rubber is for the "Light-Up" bass drum. What a crappy situation. If it's any consolation, my cheapo Yamaha drums have a shell overlap too! :)

Contacting Ludwig is not easy. Ludwig is just a brand name being used by a larger company. There is no Ludwig, per se. I tryed to get them on the phone, by e-mail and snail-mail last year and could not get a response. Take the drums to a local Ludwig dealer, have them look at it.

You may want try this. Go to ebay help. Search on reporting counterfit items (which are forbidden on ebay) If ebay detirmines they are fake you may be able to fight for your money back. Good luck.

No, it's where the other tom arm from that Pearl type tom mount goes.

My question is, how is he getting the new Ludwig mini-lugs?
Ludwig used to only sell the lugs in limited supplies to keep this from happening - and they weren't cheap either, like about $6 each to dealers... otherwise my kit would have gotten Ludwig "Classic" lugs on it.

I'll be your expert......do don't have to be an actully expert do you? I don't think that they'd let a 16year old kid on the other side of the world be your expert.

Well i tried.

Please keep us all up-to-date with how it all works out. Good Luck mate.

I just got back from seeing a beatles cover band (Beatlemania Now)
Ringo had a Fab4 Ludwig kig. It did not look like the one you got.
His had the keystone venthole logos on his.

true, the second hole is for a second tom arm. ludwig bass drums should have ONLY one hole, as their toms are mounted off of one metal pole. pearl style drums have two metal poles sticking out of the bass drum. this does not necessarily mean your drums are pearl, though. lots of companies, mostly lower end, use a pearl-style double tom mount.

as for the mini lugs, that's a very good question. maybe he made a mold from an original and makes reproductions. he IS a crafty mofo. or maybe he works for ludwig and stole a bunch of them. who knows?

i'm 100% sure this seller is a con artist, but i'm not certain i could write a convincing enough letter to prove it (i don't know much about the "fab four" kit other than photos i've seen of it). i'd suggest contacting ebay first and seeing what they suggest.

Here's the company that owns Ludwig.

I bet a phone call and tell them somebody is selling couterfeits on ebay will get a response. Companies hate couterfeits because it's crap with their name on it. Good luck.

He's not that damned crafty, otherwise the original questions would have never come up. If he had used keller's 8-ply maple shells, the only question would have been about the logo on the shell, and he could have BS'd his way through that one saying the kit was some kind of limted edition kit.

Hell, he could have printed up some kind of "official" looking sheet of paper describing the kit with the Ludwig logo to make it look like a corporate letterhead, and there would have been no question at all.

Yeah call the company. And tell ebay, I had another seller steal my pics and wording and start a bid a day after mine, I reported it and two days later it was down. Just send them a pic of the official kit, your kit, and the kit in his photos. This guy could me making 10's of thousands of dollars and maybe a shitload more than that and somebody out there would be more than happy to shut his ass down. And again call and talk to ludwig you never know, they may feel really sorry for you and send you a free kit, never hurts to try.

i bet its a very low end ludwig accent kit that he dolled up to look like the fab 4 kit. if thats the case he might not be doing anything illegal. i dont think he really claims that its the fab 4 set. unless im missing something.

i actually have a new fab 4 ludwig set. its a great set but i paid almost $2000 for it and he sold his for $899.

im not saying what the guy is doing is right because the ad is very unclear but thats probably why hes gotten away with it for so long.

below is a link to a photo of a ludwig accent kit. notice that only one post comes out of the bass drum. the ebay kit has two holes in the bass drum. i'm guessing the fake ludwigs are lower quality than ludwig's bottom of the line drums.
