King of Bling
I had these 2 songs recorded awhile ago, and then I put drums to them with ezDrummer. Took about an hour each, which surprised the hell out of me. Real drums take me forever, and I'm not even talking about tracking them.

All That I've Done

Penny Lane

Anyway, I know everybody has been using ezDrumber (sic) forever, but I'm late to the party, and since i haven't posted anything in here in forever, I thought I'd share.

That's my daughter singing and on some of the acoustic guitars...I'm playing the other stuff.

Drums sound great, love the songs, and your daughter has a great voice!

Very Alanis Morissette if you don't mind me saying :D

Yeah, I probably would've been fooled by the drums -- great job.

And +1 on your daughter's great voice. I still spin "Golden Apples" on occasion. :)

P.S. If you're going to insult people on behalf of the Lone Star state, be sure to get the spelling correct! It's a contraction of "you all," and should thusly be spelled "y'all." :)

(This is coming from a fellow Texan, by the way. I was born there and lived there for 35 years.)

Ha...you're totally right. Thanks for listening, man. The knock on this program is that people who REALLY listen to drums can instantly recognize them for what they are. I really don't care...99 per cent of the listening public couldn't tell you if a drum was real or triggered or nothing but a sine wave, lol. They're fast, and they don't sound horrible.

Phil - I appreciate the listen. Not offended at all by the comparison. She sounds like different people on different songs...she has some Kelly Clarkson sometimes...Sheryl Crow (rarely)...Thanks again for the drum opinion.

Sounds great! Sometimes something is time-whacked on the first song. I cant tell if its the drums or the guitar. Also try to add a splash here and there so it becomes a little less monotonous. Also bring them up a little. I use EZ drummer and not many people can tell its fake drums. Great work!

Sounds great :).

I listened to penny lane. It has already been established that your daughter has a great voice, but I'll echo those thoughts anyway. Her voice itself is unique in my experience, but her singing style does remind me of some of the people mentioned above at times.

Drums sound good. I've heard of ezdrummer here often over the years, but have no direct experience with it. This mix is bright and clear and the drum sound fits in with that nicely .

All That...
Cool song & recording - lovely voice - full of nuance.
Drums - well I play mine straight from a TR505 so I'm at the critically disempowered end of the spectrum but, if I may offer, your programming does the job quite nicely: good samples & believable playing patterns, (I think the sniff of the unreal comes from a dud sample and an "unplayable in the real world by a traditional quadrathumping human" pattern).

Thanks for listening...very much. It could be the guitars...or the vocal...or both, lol. I wish I'd had this program 3 years ago when (I think) it came out...because it would make the whole tracking thing so much easier. It's always easier playing to drums than to a click, so I think from now on, it'll go "scratch track to click (guitars and vocals)" >>> Do drums for an hour >>> Bass >> guitars >> Vocals. I've always had to do it backwards, tracking guitars to a click, then vocals, then everything else.

Sounds great :).

Thanks very much for taking the time. She's 19 now...she really wants to put a band together and move to Austin and live in poverty until her late 20's, at which point, she will regret dropping out of college. Just like her old man, lol.

I appreciate the listen very much. These are cool because I'm not really "programming" anything in the traditional sense. I mean, I did put in the occasional crash when needed, but other than that, there was no midi editing...I just listen to various patterns in real time while the song is playing, pick one I like, and drag and drop it directly into the session. F'ing easy. Thus the name, lol. Thanks again.

take out the fills and the HH chokes and you'd never know.

Wow! That's excellent. Your daughter has tremendous talent, as do you.

Great song too, BTW (All That I've Done).

Will listen to Penny Lane soon!

Cheers,
Joseph

WOW, EzDrummer has gotten so much better. I remember being one of the first ones that got this program when it came out and then I hated it because nothing would mix well with it.

That was like 3 years ago :)

I still think you can't beat Platinum Samples or Steven Slate Drums 3.0

Another thumbs up for the song and the vocals.

I've been a big fan of Better Off Dad and have a lot of downloads. (I seriously need to buy a CD). I listened to All That I've Done and love it. Another in my BOD collection, cool!!

I use ezdrummer too and the big giveaway is the room mic. After some advice from Greg_L long ago, I usually pull it down for minimal contribution.

The song needs nothing and is radio ready.

If your daughter ever makes it to Austin, be sure she hooks up with the Austin Songwriter's Group. A great group of people and well connected, too.

I'm listening to Penny Lane and in the first run through before 'in the morning' there is a big note off key. I would also put a little more compression in those vocals.

Besides that, it sounds pretty good like the first song.

How do you do your balance of each tom etc - sounds very widely panned. I am not a drummer but so would like to know if that is usual for a kit.

Sweet song. Mallow.

Listening to All That I've Done.....
Amazing voice, so much character!
Drums sound pretty good to me. Nice song, great mix!

Yeah, it's pretty widely panned by default. After I did these 2 drum tracks, I found out that you can actually send each of the different drums to a separate channel and independently Pan and EQ to taste. The next tunes I'm working on won't have quite the same MY FACE IS 2 INCHES FROM THE TOMS AS I'M LISTENING TO THIS SONG feel, lol. Some people like to pan pretty hard, and I used to be one of them, but I've sort of tamed it down over the years, so I'm glad I have some options that I didn't know I had. Thanks for listening.

Joey...thank you for taking the time.

Fuck you, hahahaha. Thanks.

I appreciate the listen and the comment. My daughter's not that good, but I'm so awesome that it makes up for it, HAHAHAHAhahaha.

Yeah, it almost mixes too well...I'd like the drums a little dirtier, but I think I can trash them up some now that I know I have routing options. Thanks for listening.

Thanks again! Yeah, I'm still tweaking the vocal...it definitely pops out throughout.

She will be in Austin in January, and I'm all over the Austin Songwriter's Group. She's a member of the local one here and loves it. Got her some radio play recently. I think she's a good writer at 19...I really can't wait to hear what she puts out at 25, right?

Oh, and yeah...I'm tweaking the drums, and taking the room mic out gives a much more raw sound to work with. Thanks for the tip.

Those are some *great* sounding drums ya got there. Wow. They mix perfectly, too.

Thanks for sharing!
