Exporting Tracks with Tascam 2488

I apologize in advance to anyone who is already sick of me harping about the 2488. I personally don't like the dang thing.

My Buddy who has a quite nice little home studio has one. He also has 2 decked out PCs with latest version of Sonar. I think the Man has taken leave of his senses......

Be that as it may, bfore I can convince him that the Sonar and the Computer
are Superior....I need some data that I could not find in the Manual.

Is the 2488 capable of exporting more than one track at a time?

Thanks for any feedback, and/or questions. Like WHY would I want to export tracks, for example.

Answer: It seems as though EQ-ing/effecting/etc.. any of the tracks internally is a herculine task.

I'd prefer to edit with the computer. I'd rather RECORD with the computer.

I guess my post sounds kinda anti-tascam. I didn't mean it that way. I just find the 2488 to be a little on the buggy side.

Even after studying the manual, I can't see any way to exports tracks en masse to cakewalk or cool edit or whatever.

Anyway, i'll keep looking! Thanks

Yes, you can export all tracks of one song or even pick and choose tracks(up to 24, non of the virtual) to the fat partition or even CD-R if you choose.

I'm guessing you've gotten as far as exporting 1 track. When you are on that screen where you are selecting tracks, use the cursor to select the track you want to export and hit the insert button to select it(put the little check mark by it). Obviously you already know how long it takes to export a track so be prepared for a whole song.

Thankyou. I'm really not as much of an Idiot as I must appear.
Maybe I'm dyslexic or something. I really went over that manual a lot. But, obviously missed a great deal.

Same thing with a used Kawai K4 (with manual) and my JV1010. I just can't seem to make the K4 perform as a midi controller. I know it's supposed to be able to be used that way etc.. not for me.

Anyway, exporting songs.....if for no other reason than the tiny 'window' or screen or whatever it's called on the 2488.

Sonar is much more user friendly in my opinion for editing effecting mixing. As I keep repeating, the studio and gear is not mine. So, learning to use all the stuff is weird. If I had to be the 'engineer' (people toss that word around somewhat loosely) I'd have Cool Edit Pro,delete Sonar and sell the 2488 on Ebay.

it aint mine to sell. maybe I'll pour a pepsi into it.

billy. if you get a chance try what i use and it wont cost you much.
ive been recording for years. just use an amd athlon computer(nvidea chipset) with 512 ram.
put two fast 7200 rpm drives in it. (dma enabled).
and put powertracks on it i use from pgmusic.com.
only 49 bucks. superb recording software. you wont do better for the money.
just try the demo sometime. it will do 48 tracks with a fast computer.
the midi editing and audio editing alone is worth the money.
forgetting that its multitrack software. also try band in a box sometime.
a very good songwriters helper. for sequencing sample tracks try the free
hotstepper. then just import into the multitracker to add all your other tracks.
for a sound card look at delta. dont put any thing else in the pci slots other than the souncard.
just add a yamaha mg mixer, a few mics, and a pair of yorkville montors
powered off a home hi fi receiver and you have a very nice decent quality studio with lots of flexibility for about 1400 bucks if you shop wisely.

yes. I agree. For my own self, I already have a Cool edit Pro CD, and Powertracks as well. Also, band in the Box.

I need the PC. You're quite right. I can only fiddle about with the PC I have.

It's a friend of mine who has a home 'studio' that I'm looking out for here.
I could GIVE the guy both Cool Edit AND Powertracks. And he has 2 decked out PC's all new huges HDs etc. Also, they both have Sonar 9..(I prefer Cool Edit or Powertracks)......plus a tascam 2488 (recent purchase) which I think he should put on Ebay asap.

He then purchased a EMU1820......to use with the 2488? heck if I know. He should have bought the EMU 1820M, for the computer(s) and lose the 2488

see, I'm doing a barter thing for him. But it's failing. in other words I play on demos of his songs in exchange for free studio time for my songs. but it's not a functional studio. something has to go. the PCs or the 2488. it's ridiculous to have it all cobbled together as one big dysfunctional system. I aint no doctor ...but I'm losin me patience ;)

Yeah, not sure why he wanted the Tascam if he has 2 powerful computers and only records at home.

For me, I love the 2488. I have a lot of friends that are in bands, so I go to where they practice and record them. Much easier then dragging a computer. Plus once you get used to the 2488, recording can go fast. It's the exporting that takes a bit of time. But once you have one song exported, you can start mixing it while the others are exporting.

yes, it is very portable. That's a good thought. AND....considering how much he'd lose moneywise by selling it (even though it's brand new), he may as well keep it. And I may as well learn to love it ;)
