I have 4 songs that need to be exported and then burned to a CD so the cd can be duplicated. What is the best way to export them: RIFF Wave, Broadcast Wave, or MP3? Also should I use a Bit Depth of 16 or 24?

Thanks alot.

Who is duplicating the CD?

Generally you would want to export an RIFF Wave, at 16 bits and 44.1 KHz sample rate if you are burning the CD's yourself. However, if you are sending to a duplicating house, I would ask them what they need and how they want it.

In fact, it is normal to have the CD mastered prior to having it duplicated. Generally the ME will then give you a finished copy that can be brought to a duplication plant, along with all other necessary information.

I'd export to whatever the project was originally worked at. For instance, if the project is 44/24, export a riff wav to 44/24. CW isn't highly regarded for it's conversion capabilities in comparison to the high quality tools most mastering facilities employ. Let the folks w/ the better equipment make those conversions when needed.

That said, IF you are doing your own burning, you're best served by 44/16 riff wav.

Again, I'd export out of CW at the project spec, but convert in Sound Forge or Wavelab afterwards.

If you don't have those programs, then exporting riff wav at 44/16 w/in CW is the way to go.

Best,

Kev.

True the dithering tools aren't as good as a proper mastering facility but the addition of the POW-R v3 dither in Sonar 4 Producer is eminently able to hold its own against any other software dither.
