Hi People,
I think it's time for a new thread on this one. Yep this is the song *based on* Psalm 139. Gidge has kindly provided some electric guitar which I think really lifts the song.... in fact I can't imagine it without it now. This is a rough mix I still have to add some more vocal...(sorry Gidge, I got stuck on mixing).

All suggestions welcome

hey, it sounds pretty good to me.....i was hoping to record these dudes a bit cleaner.....they arent as pieced together as the original Frankenstein tracks i used, but id like to get them all in one shot and a tad better timed.........

im glad these parts grew on ya:)

Gidge I had to line the tracks up manually. They didn't just paste in in time like you hoped.... although I did notice in looking at the waveform the timing wandered a little... I'm quite happy though with the way they turned out, don't feel you have to do them again.

The mix is a bit rough too. I spent a lot of time fiddling last night. I tried to switch to using delay instead of reverb... but after an hour I gave up... it just didn't sound right... but I can see how it opens up a mix as people suggest. I also beefed the bass and drums up a bit too to suit the more aggressive style... then I spent a while trying to find some digital clipping I swear I could hear... no fun.

Do you like the way I cut the verb in the second half of verse 3 ? I was just mucking around and thought..."hey that sounds good"

Cheers

Sounds great guys.
The electric guitar work is perfect!
Really nice job Mike,I dig your tone and playing, sweet!

Brings a new dimension to the song, just what it needed.
Sounds like it was all recorded together, just great!

I liked the length of the song, leaves you wanting more.
The way you stopped it sounded just right.

How did you guys do this,mp3's?

Excellent job,thanks,
Pete

yes, this site is REALLLLLLLLY slow the past few days.....

yes, we did it with mp3's.....i sent him 2 stereo 192kbps mp3s and he mixed it in.....

Hey dres (and Gidge),

This one is well on its way......

I heard the electric pierce through in a bad way during the verses and then it would fall into place. Maybe some more tinkering to get it to sit right.

I liked the build around 2:10 or so but, I think that elec git fill on the left and the electric git in general could have more of a presence. Again, a simple matter of tinkering.

The song is starting to have a nice punchy dynamic.

Where are the back-up vocals?;) :)

It's all coming together.

Nice job so far!

Peace,

Theron.

Hi people,
well it looks like we're still getting the five start treatment around here ! How affluent :) Where's the spa bath ? :D

I'm really pleased with the way it's sounding now. I'm actually sitting at my computer right now contemplating the backing vocals so hopefully tomorrow I'll post something.

I've had awful trouble getting onto the site lately so good to hear it's not just me.

In the meantime you might like to take a walk through a rainforest... check my new thread.

Cheers

this is really good. I am impressed by the sound quality/musical talent of HR members everyday, and this is certainly no exception

Just listened to your other stuff, boy, have I missed out or what!
Keep up the good work :)

what mic do you use on your acoustic guitars?

AL

i put up 3.6 ...its just the chorus part with two bg vocal ideas on keyboard.....the left part is basically the part i did on 3.5 and the right part doubles the main melody on the 1st and 3rd lines but does a simple harmony on the 2nd and 4th.....

id do the main melody 2 more times and pan them left and right....

do each of those 2 parts twice and also pan them left and right.....

do a lowcut on them...boost the highs a tad....add some wet stuff.....

that left part is an octave + above the main melody but squeeze hard enuff and you could do it.... :D ;) :p :)

A1A2: Thanks for the complements. I've had a big break lately being overseas and holiday for 2 months... but since I've come back it's been really productive. Acoustic guitar is recorded with 3 mics. A stereo pair of $2 omni electret mics going through my portable minidisk + Rode NTK with the bass chopped out using a focusrite voicemaster.... a big weird but it's working.

Gidge: Thanks for the little clip... actually I have already done the harmonies since my last post...no squeezing required :D... I'm attempting to mix them in tonight so I will endevour to post it tomorrow. Check your pm's too, I finally got your message.

harmonies done?....just great...i thought you was gonna join the Slacker club with me and muzeman.....:D

seriously, good going..... i cant wait to hear it.....

Background Vocals in

Well I've just posted my new mix including background vocals. There are a couple of little things I'm not happy with but I think it's an improvement.... boy this song sounds really full now !

Well 3 is better than 1. Thanks again for your nice comments but I know there's still some tweaking to do. You really should try and be more critical ;) it's the only way I'll improve !

You know I have about 2 or three other songs just waiting for collaboration that no-one hear has heard yet.... and a couple of books worth of old tunes I wrote. Lots more to do. Hopefully this song will come to a close soon and I'll be onto the next.

I'd like to collaborate in other peoples songs too. I think it really broadens your musical perspective.

It's been fun so far.

Cheers
