Thanx for all the comments, True and Supercreep. It was a fun song to do, and forrced me to sing a little out of my range, which actually turned out better than I thought. I wasn't sure if I could pull it off, but I just decided to belt it out and double it just like John did.

Funny, you mention Sexie Sadie. It was a toss up between Monkey and Sadie (both tunes also happen to be about the Maharaji...). But since Sadie is mainly a piano tune, I decided to go with the rockier one...thanx alot.

Unless you strained your cords, I'd encourage you use this range again sometime. I really liked the tone/flavor it brought out in your voice...and it was right on pitch ;)

I prefer this to the original. Thats pretty much the highest compliment I can give out. :cool:

I was a HUGE Beatle fan, I know the White Album down to the slghtest 32nd note in Revolution #9. I always thought they could have done a better job with this song, and you did it for em. :)

Yeah, I always loved this song. It's just a fun song that displays yet another Beatles persona and you captured the vibe well.

You sing, "Come on, it's such a joy" and I always thought it was "Come on, you said you'd do it". I guess the former would make more sense so you're probably right. I heard this song was about John trying to get everyone else to calm down about their qualms about Yoko so maybe that's why I thought it was the latter. Now I've got to listen to the original again to see what I think.

Thanx alot Inhabitant. Actually, on paper it's "Come on IS such a joy"...But I sang "IT's...such a joy" because that's what it always sounded like to me. Funny, you never know what to believe. I heard the lyrics are expressions that the Maharaji would use when he'd "Preach" to them during that week they spent with him. Which makes sense to me, but who knows. Thanx for the comments.

Sounds to me(no offence) you are using old strings in bass.Am I wright?

Hi CIRO...Thanx alot for your comments, as usual. Come to think of it, I haven't changed the strings on my bass since I bought it about 5 years ago. It hasn't even crossed my mind. In fact, it might be time to change my guitar strings, too. Besides repalcing the E and B strings whenever they break, I haven't changed my guitar strings in a few years, either. :eek: :eek: :eek:

I record my bass by putting it through the FOCUSRITE pre-amp. I put very little compression on it while recording, if any at all. During mix down, I compress it quite a bit if need be. For EQ, I scoop out about 3db at around 250-300hz, low-shelf cut everything under 100hz so that it doesn't interfere with the kik, and crank up at about 1-2k to get some attack.

That´s one of reasons that I comment ,when hear "Fall Apart" tracks at first time,that your tracks "sits" well in mix.
And Bass Drum / Bass guitar are maybe the more important part of it.
Your BD has really a lot of ~50hz, but yet sounds with a puchy "kick",
and your bass guitar works on a very different frequencie.

That´s "one" of secrets ...

RAMI... as a producer and recordist, not to mention a FOH guy, for a Beatles tribute band, the last six years have been spent recreating Beatles music in a live environment.

Your take on "Everybody's got something to hide cept me and my monkey" is a high quality homage. It's one thing to cover a song, and another to actually capture the energy of a song. Your version has a vibe and feeling that is true to orginal, but also includes a lot of you (in fact all of you :)

Top notch performance and recording. I like how you replaced the bell with a tamborine. I've always thought it wouldn't sound right without it. But you captured the 'buzz' and frantic energy extremely well.


And by the way, regarding the history of the song, "come on, come on" and much of the verses were favorite phrases of the Maharish Mahesh Yogi. The phrase 'everybody gots something to hide except me and my monkey' was in refernce to John and Yoko. John was puzzled by others reactions to Yoko, and it kind set up an 'us versus them' scenerio which both he and Yoko relished and used as motivation to shock people.
 
Top notch cover. Sounds live. Rhythms are super tight, guitar lines are perfect in intonation AS WELL as being frenzied. At 2:18 during the "come on" section where the voices are layered, I bet it'd add to the live feel and intensity of the track if you used different people's voices. This performance would be great too with some live audience noise under it. :cool:

Michaelst and Timothy...Can't tell you how much those compliments mean to me. I literally learned the parts to this tune in about an hour and started tracking and got it done the same afternoon. So, I'm not bragging, but just trying to tell you that i'm surprised people like it that much, I didn't put that much work into it. Maybe that's what gives it a "live" feel, I don't know.
Michael, thanx for the history lesson on the tune. I knew the phraes came from the Maheshi Yogi whatshisname, but wasn't sure if the "Me and my Monkey" line was about him and Yoko. Makes sense.
Tim, yes a few different vocalists in the "come on" part would hae been more convincing I'm sure. But since I work alone, I had no choice....Thanx again, guys, relaly appreciate it.
 
sounds excellent RAMI. 3 thumbs up. well, one might not be a thumb. :D

i was just listening to the stream from your site and realized your vocal timbre reminds me of Jets To Brazil, especially on Higher Place and Time.
 
In general,... I liked it.

Now,... consider the source,... but my only nitpicks are as follows:

It's a bit more locked in and rigid than the original,... which was more frenetic.

The bass sounds mechanistic in it's perfection & repetition,... like maybe a midi-programmed bass,... or are you just that tight of a bass player??

The vocals are excellent, but probably a bit smoother than the original,... which of course had that ascerbic Lennon "edge".

I know you like your own glory & spotlight, but why didn't you tag this to the previous Beatles' Cover Thread???

Okay,... to set the record straight,... I think the playing, singing and production is excellent. The "come-on-come-on" interlude was originally done in that "off-beat" way, so I'd have to disagree with the poster above, who says it's off beat and therefore detracts from the song. Maybe go listen to the original before commenting on a ragingly successful cover version like this? :eek:

To say this is a difficult song that you pulled off exceptionally well would be an understatement, despite the nit-picks, above. They're nit-picks and there's nothing subtantial to criticize,... really. Remember, I said "consider the source". :eek:

Rami,... you rock as always. Your covers give me a kick in the pants, each and every time! Rock on, man!

Reel...It's all live instruments, so no MIDI Bass or MIDI anything else. In fact, I don't do any looping or copying and pasting. So besides punching in if I make mistake, it's all pretty much played all the way through. I certainly won't take it as an insult that some things aren't as pefect as.....what were they called again??? Oh yeah...The Beatles.:D

It didn't cross my mind to put it in the Beatles cover thread, probably since it's somewhere back on page 8754 for all I know...Has nothing to do with the "glory" of posting my music on some music site. :D :p
