Thanx alot Coolcat.COOLCAT said:sounds great...
so what are the recording notes and chains etc..?
if you don't mind sharing.
how many tracks, whats the guitar setup, mic chain, drums?
..engineer stuff, track sheet notes?
frkn great recording imo, anyway.
Ok, well I never keep notes and start every song from scratch, so I have no templates or anything to remind me what I did for the tune before.
For this tune, there are 2 guitar tracks. Both go through my Yamaha DG STOMP pedal, into my Peavey Studiomaster which I use just the speaker from. I mic with an sm57 pointed at 45 degrees away from the centre. Into my Focusrite Voicemaster Pro pre-amp. I never compress dostorted guitars, never eq while tracking and barely eq after the fact. Just a little low end cut and maybe cut around 4k if it grates a bit.
Bass is an Ibeenhad something or another. Straight into the board. COmpressed after the fact but not while tracking.
Drums: I have a 5 piece Tempest (fibreglass) kit. I use a 57 on the snare, D112 on the kik, and 2 AKG C1000's for overheads. The kik goes through the Focusrite.
Vocals: AKG C3000b into the Focusrite. If I'm doubling vocals, like I did in this tune, I flip the phase on the second track...I don't know why, it just seems like the thing to do at the time.
I record everything into my TASCAM 2488. After I mix, I take the 2 track pre-master into my comfuser and Master with Wavelab. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to Mastering. I just make sure the tune clocks in at about -12db average, using the L2. I also use Magneto, which is supposed to give an alalog warnth, but my ears aren't good enough to tell you what the fuck it does.
That's about it I think...Hope that helps.
