sounds great...

so what are the recording notes and chains etc..?
if you don't mind sharing.
how many tracks, whats the guitar setup, mic chain, drums?
..engineer stuff, track sheet notes?

frkn great recording imo, anyway.
Thanx alot Coolcat.

Ok, well I never keep notes and start every song from scratch, so I have no templates or anything to remind me what I did for the tune before.

For this tune, there are 2 guitar tracks. Both go through my Yamaha DG STOMP pedal, into my Peavey Studiomaster which I use just the speaker from. I mic with an sm57 pointed at 45 degrees away from the centre. Into my Focusrite Voicemaster Pro pre-amp. I never compress dostorted guitars, never eq while tracking and barely eq after the fact. Just a little low end cut and maybe cut around 4k if it grates a bit.

Bass is an Ibeenhad something or another. Straight into the board. COmpressed after the fact but not while tracking.

Drums: I have a 5 piece Tempest (fibreglass) kit. I use a 57 on the snare, D112 on the kik, and 2 AKG C1000's for overheads. The kik goes through the Focusrite.

Vocals: AKG C3000b into the Focusrite. If I'm doubling vocals, like I did in this tune, I flip the phase on the second track...I don't know why, it just seems like the thing to do at the time.

I record everything into my TASCAM 2488. After I mix, I take the 2 track pre-master into my comfuser and Master with Wavelab. I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to Mastering. I just make sure the tune clocks in at about -12db average, using the L2. I also use Magneto, which is supposed to give an alalog warnth, but my ears aren't good enough to tell you what the fuck it does.

That's about it I think...Hope that helps.

No problem. Wish I could be of more help, but I pretty much wing it track by track and song by song.

The many wonders of the white album.
Rami - will you cover Revolution #9 - after all it was the brainchild of a drummer?
I agree with the Gort - bring the backing squals etc up a little more , come on come on. Oh, I like the little accent liberties you've taken with that bit - given a more current flavour.
All sounds fine on my amp & speakers. I look forward to the tweaked version.
I'd love to hear your version of happiness is a Warm Gun!

Rami - excellent tune - very 70's sounding funk... a little like Edgar Winter....
The more I listen to my version, and since I'm no John Lennon, I can see how this can have an Edgar Winter feel to it. Sort of "We all had a real good time" thing going on....pretty cool

I had no idea...I thought it was a John thing all the way....But, no I will not be doing Revolution 9. My song "Sky" already comes to close to being a Revolution rip-off. :)

Thanx for the comments and tips. Looks like I should bring up the screams a bit. I kind of like them in the back, but I can't argue with popular opinion...hehe....:)

Thanx Dogman....Yeah, my site sometimes screws up on the song order. 90% of the time it plays the right tune, but sometimes it plays whatever tune it feels like playing. Please tell me you know this tune....please!!!

For the vocals, all I did was scream them out because they were almost out of my range, and then I sang them again.
Range??? What is this? :p

I actually have great range...just can't use it. 2 notes in, and I'm stuck in that 1/8th octave....

John ran with it but Ringo made some comment & the phrase #9 I read. He had an accidental sense of surrealism- serendipitous surrealism?- Hard Day's Night was another of his lines. & then the B side You Know My Name (So Look Up The Number) appears to have had more than his voice in it.
Don't bump the screams up if YOU like them in situ. It's your recording. maybe just try it & see how it sounds to you - it does have the potential for being a bit silly if they don't sit right.

Yes...I know Ringo said "Tomorrow Never Knows"...He did have a way with words....but not when he opened his mouth to....um...sing....:D

Great cover of the tune Rami. That song has always been one of my favorites on one of my favorite albums. It takes some chops to pull off that song that well.

Wow! Thanx alot, guys. I was beginning to wonder if anyone knew this song...I was losing hope in mankind. :)

Seriously, though, listening to it this morning, I think the bass drum might be too boomy. I did something different to it hoping I would get more of a 60's sound, but might have over-done it. Thanx for the comments, I'll keep working on it.

How the hell does this thread have almost 3000 views in less than 12 hours??? That can't be right. Yikes!!!!

It's the CIA...I know they're watching me.

I sent the link to the generic WalMart email distribution list.
Don't be surprised if you get a blue vest in the mail...and lose your benefits.

Nice one Rami!! I don't comment much on covers, but this sounds good. I had long forgotten the Monkey!! :D

I just love how this song is put together. I bet it was fun. It sounds fun.

Hi RAMI, great cover of one of the best unknown Beatles songs and one of my favorites.

I really liked the extended ending.

I also liked that you didn't cover the tune's arrangement exactly. The bass line you began with was a nice touch.

After your tune faded I expected Sexie Sadie to come on, come on, come on.... :)
