Flamingo!
Decided I'd do a rough cut of Frusciante's song.

Two things I already know: 1.) The timing of the synths at the end are off. 2.) Some of the chords between guitar and synth don't match up.

Be as harsh as possible, or praise if you'd like (:D)

Anything to do with the levels?

That much effect on the vocal might be okay for five or ten seconds, but it really doesn't work as a constant sound. My guess is that it's masking performance issues as well.

Yeah, I was trying to match the original. Listening to it again, I think I went a little overboard. I'll back it off a little but it's meant to sound like that, at least in Frusciante's recording. I realize a lot of people don't like that, especially Greg. :)

Thanks for listening!

Hmmm...yeah, this seems pretty rough sonically but I was not familiar with the original and now, having checked it out, I can see this is actually kind of faithful to it. Seems like the guitars could also use some revisiting.... I don't think they're out of tune but some wonky notes get played around 1:38 and 1:43...

Hey, this is not what I expected being unfamiliar with this guy's solo stuff (he was the guitarist for the chili peppers and then had a heroin issue and left and then came back again, right?), and also knowing you as a classical guitar playing kind of dude...

I like a lot of the sounds here. It's pretty adventurous. The vocal was odd pitch-wise, but some or all of that may be intentional given the nature of the piece. I liked the distant effect on it personally. The guitar in the middle kind of has that flat, DI sound going though...it wasn't mic'ed, was it? Sorry, not much help I guess, but I listened a few times and enjoyed it and just wanted to share a few thoughts.

I think it sounds really cool! I know who Frusciante is but I'm not familiar with this track. Your mix is very clean and everything has its place so there's that. I don't think think the timing issues are too bad. The untrained ear really wont notice.

Wow! I've been in NYC so I haven't had a chance to respond.

Fleet - thanks man! I'll definitely have to figure out the right notes on the guitar

Rayc - thanks!

Heat - yep! That's Frusciante! This song was recorded probably a year after sobering. He still had a crazy mind then. :D

Thanks reganito! It's probably as simple as editing anyway.

Nah, the guitars weren't micd. They do sound kinda dull.

I don't know what it's supposed to sound like, so it sounds okay to me. I think the kick and vocals can come up. Some timing problems. But overall I guess it's pretty good for whatever the hell it is. :D

:laughings:

Thanks, Greg.

I'll follow your critiques on the vocal and kick.

Wait, what am I saying? This a demo, so ill follow it when I re-record. :D

Actually, I think I'll just keep this and do some editing. I'm too lazy to record it again. :D
