ever get the bad end of a sale?

Similar heartbreak stories I'm sure..

I was young... I traded a '69 Gibson EB3 straight up for a Crown DC300 power amp. I kept the amp as a reminder of my stupidity.

I was young and poor.......sold a Fender Rhodes (the one with the amp/speaker combo) for $250

I was even more poor.....sold a pair of BOSE 802s, with stands, for $400

I once paid $1,000 (in 1985) for a Tascam 246 four track. I fell in love with all the knobs.

I paid $1,000 (in 1985) for a Korg poly 61m (I just put it on the curb last week)

BUT>>>>>> I just bought an Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray for $650, so I feel a little better.

About 6 years ago I had an Amp stolen, by chance my daughter's ex-boyfriend came accross it 2 months back, he's a musician and had used it and recognised it instantly, and convinced the prick that he should give it back. As I had moved country I had to pay $250 airfreight, but it was for a principal. I got it last Friday, much abused but still works well.
She should get back with him.

Remeber the equipment on the cover of Pink Floyds Ummagumma. Was that
WEM equipment? If so what is WEM? English? I heard they had all that equipment and van stolen from a concert in The Big Easy, cant remember if I ever found out if that was true so for now it is hearsay.

Yeah, WEM is english, used to make a great tape echo, the Watkins Kopykat, the best

I had my Meesa Boogie 2:90 stolen, found out the day before a gig when I went to our rehearsal room ( is that what it's called ???) I was standing there - no sign of burglary - starring at the spot where it used to be ... I had it insuranced through the Danish musicians union, they didn't ask any questions but payed me the full amount of money I once payed for it. Unfortunately the price for a new one had raised about 800 dollars, so I couldn't afford it, bought a Marshall LS34 instead ... man I miss my boogie, I've never really liked that Marshall. About a year later my Ibanez Gem 666 was stolen from the same room, again - no sign of burglary - again I had the full amount payed by the same insurance company, but now I was fed up - bought a computer instead, and now this is the place I hang out :p

Had my 1988 Charvel Model 6 stolen from my dorm room freshman year of college. Man, I loved that guitar. When I went to replace it I found that Charvel had switched to producing CRAP, so I bought an Ibanez instead. The Ibanez was always a decent guitar, but I always missed that Charvel. I recently bought a 1988 Charvel Model 4 on Ebay for $300. Well worth it. I do like that guitar.

Want to know about UNIQUE VINTAGE gear stolen?

Ask poor Sonic Youth members...

Someone stole a U-HAUL truck full of their stuff during a tour...don't remember where... priceless gear.

Ok here's my story. I'm a pedal maniac and saved money for a long time but finally bought my BOSS Super Phaser (I live in Argentina, so it was really expensive) I had it for less than a month. It disappeared from my room. IT WAS MY FU**ING SISTER.
She stoled it and gave it to some dork boyfriend I never found. As she was my mom's favourite, I could do nothing. A week later I left my home FOREVER and never saw her or my mom again, and I am glad of it. No bul***it here, true desesperate story. Never bought it again.

Peace...

You lost your family over a pedal that I Could walk into a pawn shop and replace for $20.00. Damn!?!?

Lesson learned. Always write down model, description and serial number of your guitars etc. Another lesson learned - serial numbers can be obliterated. Here's one I do to all my guitars. On electrics - next time you change your strings pull the pick plate off. You know, that nice looking piece of whatever on the front of your guitar. Sign your name on the backside of the pick plate. When's the last time you saw someone pull the pick plate off? Acoustic guitar - next time you change strings reach your hand into the sound hole as far as possible and sign your name (out of plain site). Dipshit thieves aren't going to look there. This may get your ax back if you find it at the pawn shop. If you sell your guitar and become famous one day someone has a collectors item.:D :D I write down serial numbers, etc but if I needed them I probably couldn't remember where I put the list.

i also had a 1988 charvel model 6 stolen... my old band "Sorrow" were playing a gig up in boston with "Cronos" (remember him? from "venom"?)
anyway, after the show, we parked the van at the local howard johnsons for the night and went inside to sleep. the next morning, we found the side window smashed in and my charvel, a yamaha guitar and an ibanez bass were stolen out of it.
funny thing was that there were cymbals and drums and Marshall amp heads directly under the window. they went straight for the guitars though, the crackhead bastards.....
never got them back. and like xalien said, charvel stopped producing the model 6's with the logo that was in the shape of a guitar on the headstock. they made the logo into this cloud looking shape. thats how you knew the guitars sucked. i really miss that guitar. after that i purchased a BC Rich gunslinger with the reverse headstock. ive had that since a week after the charvel was stolen in '88.

......and right now, the dick who stole our stuff is probably pointing at his computer screen laughing his head off!!!!

Hey darrin!

Nah...everything was going bad those days...there were other reasons as well...

Anyway, that can show how much I love pedals :D

And there is no way to replace it like that here...no pawn shops like that, not 20 dollars pedals...

Peace...

> i also had a 1988 charvel model 6 stolen...

I guess good thieves know a great guitar when they see it. :-(

The cops won't tell you this but they rather like it when a theif is 'shown proper manners' cause they're so backed up with violent crime that common burglary doesn't get much attention.
I don't know about other states but in California there is no statute of limitation on a theft, so a case is open as long as records are kept. So, having photos and serial numbers is a must...

While I realize that this post is a couple weeks stale, I wanted to add my two cents. What the Studge says is key. If you can get the law the serial numbers, you never know. I come across so many things each day that I know are stolen as all hell. Unfortunately the owner was unable to produce the serial number at the time the report was taken. So, when I run a check on the goods, they always come back clear. Damn it pisses me off when I see a crank monster with a LesPaul or Strat without a case in the back of his truck. Goes for Bicycles and electronic equip too. When was the last time you took some notes of the serial numbers on your goods? Do it..... :p

Also, as for the reports thingy. Now days they are handled by telephone if they are not considered burglaries (Without much followup). But anway the serial numbers and models are placed into the Stolen system. Regardless of how quickly the report gets done. That is the key. Because when a stolen item is run through the system, I know who it belongs to. The unfortunate thing is that it often takes a while for the item to be returned as the case has to be adjudicated first as the goods are evidence. Anyway... Do it :p

My very first guitar... a Yamaha acoustic. It was stolen at church (I was naive enough to leave it stuck behind some blackboard) in about 1980.

Needless to say it was very cheap. But the memory lingers...

squier start

i had my squier start stolen out of my bands rehearsal space.
my band shares a space with my older sisters band (she is the bass player in an all girl alternative band)
my band got there 1 day and all of the gear was gone (everything but some sticks and cables)
so we called the cops and everything..
then we looked at the security camera and saw who stole all out f*cking gear...
my sisters ex boyfriend and a bunch of his buddies
it turned out before my sister dumped hsi sorry ass he "borrowed" my sisters car keys and made duplicates of the rehearsal space keys so he could pick her up...
my sisters $1700 bass was gone so she was just as mad as me so she told him she wanted to get back together with him and 2 meet her at the docks" a spot in my town where couple go 2 f*ck) in his car wearing nothing.
so i dropped her off there and she took him into the woods and told him 2 wait here.. then she went back to his car and drove off
leaving him naked in the woods at 2 am... (and about 15 miles away from home.
then we went to his buddies house and made him tell us where our stuff was...
then we changed the locks 2 the rehearsal space and its all good

hope u all like my story

see ya

About 20 years ago I had someone back a truck up to my house while I was at a gig and took everything I had that wasn't on that gig with me . 3 strats, a real nice '58 precision, a couple of stereos, a blackface twin, a tenor and alto sax, and worst of all.. a cassette case with 48 tapes of me jammin' with various people like Son Seals, Gatemouth and a bunch of others. Probably recorded over them. The gear could be replaced but those tapes..... man, I hadn't though about that in a while. Gee..now I need a drink. :(

weird .... a friend of mine had a little "buisness" with one of his so called friends ... dunno the kind of buisness, didn't care but went with him as we were out walking. Guess what, in the corner of this junkies apartment I spotted the guitarcase that was stolen from me some years ago .... inside was my beloved Ibanez Gem 666 ... my first thought was to kill the guy, my friend calmed me down and I just took the guitar with me, now I have my guitar again, never want to part from it again but .... the insurance payed me ..... what to do ? if I call them and say " hey - just got my guitar back" they want a hell lot of money from me I guess - and I'm broke .... what would you do ?
