I sold my kids for beer money.................
Now I wish I had my kids so they could go to the fridge and get me a beer. I'm too lazy to get off my fat ass and get my own.

Eh, buy a golden retreiver.

They're cheaper than kids and you can train them to do pretty much anything.

That Duke on the Bush's Beans commerical seems pretty sharp, anyway.

You let go of a 335?

What, are you crazy?

What did the Strat look like?
Here's the deal with the 335. I had bought it used and it was already well-broken-in as far as road rash goes, but played well and sounded great. I was living in College Station, TX at the time and the 335 was in desperate need of a fret job. There was a local luthier who was highly recommended.

To make a long story short, he botched the job and ruined the guitar. Wrong frets, glue all over the neck (epoxy!!!! ), fucked up the neck binding. It was literally unplayable and I was devastated.

So I traded the thing for the '72 LP Special that I still own, came out ahead as far as having a working guitar is concerned (the LP was better suited for what I was doing), and trashed the guy's reputation to the best of my ability. (Edit: I think I cost him a lot more money than he cost me, even at what the guitar would be worth today if he hadn't fucked it up. So I came out ahead, and the karmic circle was served.)

In reality I think he was a drunk with a little guitar tech capability who resold imported acoustics as his own, and fooled a lot of the "cool" red-wine-and-folk-music crowd.

The Strat was a non-trem version, MIA, sunburst. Nothing unique. I just needed a guitar with more gain at the time.

"67SG (what was I thinking?)......
I don't know about you, but back when I was buying/selling/trading all those guitars that are now worth a healthy 401K, no one really thought they were all that special. :(

Me neither I guess, that's why I traded her for a Tom Holmes Custom, baby!

MM, same SG same year. Don't know if the Bigsby was stock on that or not. I took the spring out and never used it. Sold it when I moved to the country along with my 70's JMP. Let's all say it together. "Ridgeback is a shithead" . Very good class. Also a 400 watt pre CBS Fender PS400 that I sold to Tommy Stinson after he knocked it over at our shared practice space. At the time I couldn't afford 16+ tubes or whatever it was. He offered 5 bills and I jumped. Wonder if he still has it? Thing fucking weighed like 80 lbs!

Interesting that guitars get the most mention. I have a list, but the most memorable were: '66 Strat and a Martin D-28 12 string.

I regret selling my US made Fender Strat. Man that was a sweet guitar.

I traded the Juno 106 my dad bought me when I was young for some studio time.

I'll never forgive myself for it - although I have another, it's just not the same.

:(

Too many things sold that I should have kept - but some that really bother me:

Juno 60 (later bought a Juno 106 - just not as fat sounding)

67' SG (as someone else said - they didn't seem that special at the time - I later bought an 81' SG - just not the same)

Roland SDE1000 (I still look for a used one)

64' Ludwig drum kit

74' Fibes drum kit

This is no fun at all, thinking about the stuff I sold because I needed money. A short list:

1. 1972 LP Recording...this was a really good instrument, and would have come in handy with it's LI pickups with my current setup.
2. 1974 Super Reverb...most versatile amplifier I've ever used. People dis the master volume ones, but mine sparkled like a diamond.
3. Norman B-50...bought it new, it was just getting good, but I was starving.
4. Ibanez TS 808...someone had used a marker to color it black, but it still sounded puke green.
5. 1981 The Paul...my first good electric. Sold it after 20 years of playing, thought that I would never play again. Damn...
6. Sunn beta lead. I didn't appreciate solid state at the time, and traded it for...
7. 1973 Marshall 50 watt head w/ Legend cab...too loud to use indoors, so I thought..

I don't plan on ever again selling a goddamn thing.

my moog "the source", sold it for $250 17 or 18 years ago, worth 4 times that now, fat fat fat sound, great controls too.

my alembic series 1 bass - sold it at a serious loss to pay rent, what a freakin stupid thing to sell something worth a lot and vital to your career just to live another month in a beaten up old apartment. should have moved back home LoL, instead I got married, but that's worked out to be the best move of my life, as long as I can get some freakin bookings again, the book is looking light for the next month... :-(

giving away the following was dumb, but I was pretty stupid back then LoL, hmmm, no nasty comments ok? :-)

- 12 string quebec made acoustic, nice
- fender bxr 400 bass head
- crybaby bass wah
- trading my steinberger copy fretless 5 string for a broken acoustic guitar anjo pos

man, the good old days, it's good to be clear headed these days so I keep my gear where it should be... in my home, at my side.

That was pretty much all between 8 and 25 years ago.

now I'm sad,
Don

Way back in 1983 I parted ways with a 1955 Les Paul so I could afford to move. Looking back I should have just taken the guitar and hitch-hiked, at the time I didn't really need a wife and all the other stuff anyway.

Great (but sad :D ) thread:

1) a set of EMG SA (16 years ago, but, now I know, the problem was the guitar/wood sound, not the pickups. Now I bought the new SAV  ).

2) I had not one, but TWO DBX 163 (X, after the A), and sold, and now I want it again! :(

2)Some Boss pedals (a DD3 delay,stereo chorus,compressor, and much more...).I need it back too! :D
