where nothing seems to go right. where you cant seem to get a track down no matter how many times you play it and then the rest of the band gets antsy and tired of waiting. well i had one of those days recently and i just want to know if anyone has any tips to stop it from happening again.

Yep. I've been on about a 2 year dry spell where I haven't recorded shit.

It's really puzzling because I love recording and tracking and everything about it...but for some reason the thought of getting out my mics, stands, guitar, turning on my computer, double clicking the software icon, etc, just beats me.

I blame my environment. I live in a unit, I don't have a proper studio...not even a makeshift one.

The moment of liberation can't be far away, surely.

I need a house! With lots of rooms...one of which I will turn into a studio of sorts.

Yeah. Analyze what happened like you would if you were managing a business and figuring out a business operations problem. Then change the way you work to adapt. Then do that cycle over and over as long as you're working. :D

No, seriously. :)

We all have off days. Not just guitar players but everyone else too. Stress, worry, anxiety, too much or too little sleep and lots of factors cause us to have bad days (bad weeks or even bad months.) For me, the way to overcome it is to take a break, however long it takes to figure out what is causing the distraction. Once I figure out what is throwing me off I can deal with it then get back to the business at hand. It's hard to make music when your mind is cluttered with thoughts (or worries) about other things.
Keep in mind that musicians (all artists for that matter) tend to be somewhat moody people, we all have off days, but when we have an on day we are on top of the world.
