OK, so I finally saved up and made the decision to go out and buy a pair of Event ASP8s. So, I go buy them brand new come home and hook them up and run into 2 MAJOR problems.
First, when I go to power them on, the right speaker lets out a quiet POP from the woofer, and it kind of sinks the woofer in a little bit. Kind of like it was blown out or something? But not loud at all. I try fiddling with all my wires to see if I hooked up something wrong or what the hell is going on, but everything is set up perfect. So, I switch back to my old cheap Events and they work fine. So I swap the ASP8s back in and it does it again...each time I power on, the right monitor let's out a small POP, nothing that loud or anything, but the woofer noticably moves and seems to continue moving ever so slightly, you can barely notice.
So, I'm like OK whatever, I'm taking these things back, but I want to see what they sound like, or if they even work. By the way, I fiddled around with the sensitivity in like every possible position with no change in what I described. So I pop in some music, and both monitors seem to work just fine. I played around with settings more to see if that had anything to do with anything and it didn't. The monitors both work...but they are both, well, very quiet. Like my old 5 inch cheap Events were significantly louder. I thought these ASP8s were supposed to be able to get LOUD. I turned them to 75% volume and they both were just barely what I would call loud. At 100% volume they would still not be all that loud.
So I unplugged the right speaker since it seemed to have something wrong with it, and I noticed it was very hot on the back plate. The left one wasnt hot at all. So I tested the sound with just the one left speaker which seemed to work fine, but it also could not get very loud...just a moderate volume, bordering loud.
I mean, from what I heard the speakers were very detailed, just not even close to as loud as I was thinking, but there must be something wrong with at least one of them, maybe both?
Any thoughts??
