Absolutely!! Invest in a good reference amp,I am using a hafler p1500 and I'm very happy....:D :D :D :D Stay away from the alesis amps.........

Harley and Bob,

Is the Hafler really that much better than the Alesis? I have an Alesis w/my 20/20s and have been pretty happy ... myabe I just don't know what to compare to, but the mixes coming off this have been pretty even and the amp itself seems clean and quiet ... do you have any anecdotes so I know why you favored one over the other, and hence why I may consider selling and switching?

Of course, all this is moot if your control room acoustics suck. Like many homereccers, I'm in a modified spare bedroom with minimal treatments. In a situation like that, I think it's best to get reasonable midrange gear to get signal clarity, then get used to how what you're hearing in the control room translates to the outside world. And don't do mixes when you're ears are fatigued.

Harley's really the guy to ask, as he's had both amps. I have the Alesis, and it's not powerful enough to drive the 20/20's. I'm mixing in a small room as well, and I'm pushing the amp to 75% just to get up to 85 db. If you do a search on Alesis RA-100, you'll get a bunch of other views.
Suffice it to say that the pros here who run project studios have all endorsed the Haflers. I trust their experience in these matters.
Good luck
p.s. wanna buy another RA-100?:D

Crown DC150

I have an old crown DC150 driving my 20/20s. Should I consider a new amp and if so, why?
