Getting better
Hello all,

I just bought an EV PL-95 really dirt cheap - 20 bucks. Since I don't record drums in my humble bedroom studio, I was looking at is as an alternative flavor to my vocal mics, which tend to be heavy on those cheapo Chinese condensers. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this old mic? Flatpicker, any thoughts? Ever try vocals with it? Any tips on what you like it on?

Thanks in advance,

Fab

Hey Fab, sorry I didn't get your PM. My box was full, but I've cleared it out now.

I've never messed with it much on vocals in the studio, but I tried to record some acoustic guitar with it. It's kind of sterile and bright for that, but may be just the ticket for dark vocals. I mostly use it for live stuff. Acoustic instruments and vocals sound good on it through a PA. It’s only down side is that it has a fairly low output. I bet it’d sound killer through a good transformer coupled preamp. At $20, you got a great deal – can’t go wrong there.
