Anyone have any experience with an Electro-Voice 676? I was given one by a relative who bought it in the early 60's. It has a damaged cord and I'm wondering if it's worth fixing. Would it be any good for recording an acoustic guitar that has a big bass sound?

Is that that crome cast iron mic with the rib up the top?
Seems like that was listed in Recording mag a long time ago as one of the author's favorite specialty mics for upright bass. (I could be way, way off here.)

That sounds like it. Too bad I'm not recording upright bass.

I rewired a friend's EV 664 to 3-pin from 4 pin. He likes it as part of a to mic bass drum techniqe - he uses it as the "inside the drum" as opposed to "beater side" mic. That mic has a good low end response but seems to lack a bit in the highs.

Caveat - the 676 could be different. Fix it and see!

I've still got a 664, two others drifted away somewhere. It's got a weird 4 pin connector that allows you swich from low to high impedance. Either way it sounds awful.

Hmmm, maybe if I ripped it's guts out and put in the stuff from an old EV BK-1 I might have something. They do look cool.
