ES series

or

Motif series


I read the specs on it and i know ES is better (more polyphony/more RAM....) but i like how MOTIF is designed more than ES...

They look pretty similar to me.....

ES has different side panels, and a few more buttons, but they're close. Didn't you buy a 1st generation Motif anyway?

well, i ordered it,...(they are HOLDING it for me right now because tomorrow i gotta go the bank and do the wire transfer thingy) but i just want to make sure motif 8(which is about 500 cheaper than ES8) is worth buying.. Just doing some last min check....the MOTIF that's on hold is the LAST ONE left ANYWHERE... I just dont want to regret later you know.. what yall think?

I think you'll regret getting the regular MOTIF...

Do you plan to use it with a computer or edit samples at all??? 2 USB ports... 1 for the computer 1 for an external drive...

OS upgrades that were based around user complaints about the older model...

Current user support... It's almost a guarantee that yo will not get any OS upgrades for the older modle. They might upgrade the ES to lauch rocketships or something.

More polophony... Few people realize they can download some pretty nice midi files and use these for whatever. Rip em apart and make em own...

You may never use the stuff but for 2 grand at least you know you got it...

Get the ES unless you got:

1. another sound module (due to classic motif hella limited polyphony)
2. another sequencer unless 16 tracks is enough (which it can be with the ES as your only sound module due to...increased polyphony)

As for the sounds, I still dig the classic like a motherfucker, especially when the time is taken to make dope sounds.

The sequencers are the same, and the few additional features on the programming & sequencing end plus the the additional pole filters, etc, make the ES definately not a step down. Besides, I've swung 'em both and they can each knock shit waaaay out the ballpark.

I have a MO Classic and love it. I don't use it for sampling but I did max out the RAM on it just in case. Very good pianos for now. I'm going to get a DGX-500 for my piano sounds, I checked one out the other day and it sounded great. So when I get that the MO will be used for what it's supposed to be used for, as a SYNTH.

For what it's worth, I researched this before deciding to go the "dumb" kb route and play sonic samples via a controller. If you want a stand-alone, ES7 would be the way to go. Just my humble opinion...
