They sound like.... good to me. So far, anyways. I picked one up a few weeks ago, have used it on a few demo songs to mic a distorted amp and snare. Sounds a bit brighter to my ears than an SM57, but not in a bad way. Just slightly different. For less than $40 shipped, to me it's a great deal. Built solidly.

I have some in the mail right now. I ordered a pack of three ES-57's and a 7 pack of microphone cables. Many people have taken a liking to them and I am convinced that you can make most mic's sound good. Their rep around here is good and I'm willing to take the word of a lot of people around here. Call me naive if you want. The honest truth is,they cut better tracks then I ... so I value their opinions.:) Good luck.

I've got three of them and I use them on everything I'd use an SM57 on. And it's not because I have no choice, I have a Vintage Shure Unidyne III SM57, Shure 545S--and EV 635--All great mics for guitar cabs, snares & toms--among other things.

But I use my ES57s just as much. So I'd say they're not a just a "cheap" alternative, I'd say they're a viable alterative.

haha im another person who couldnt pass up the 3 for 75 bucks deal. they dont sound identical to 57 but they definitely serve the same purpose, the highs seem a little harsher in the es57 and it doesnt have as much low end response as the shure. but these 2 problems arent really so much of a problem they just makes the mics overal a bit brighter and if you are using them for something with more of a low end like toms they will lack a bit of bass but nothing you cant fix with eq. they are built solid and there is not really any noticeble noise from them. they are without a doubt some of the best bang for under 30 bucks a piece

3 for 75 bucks?? Where?

Creep,

Go to the link in the first post here then click on mics on the left and scroll down. You'll see 3 packs and 10 packs. I, like an idiot, just ordered 3 singles from the first page you see there. I could have saved like $10 or $15 bucks. Oh well live and learn. They did ship them pretty fast, I think I ordered on Monday and had them by Thursday UPS.

Several of the replies....

Have mentioned that the ES-57 is a bit brighter than the SM-57. In my opinion (and I have and use both), the "brighter" is due to the fact that the ES-57 does not have as much of a mid-boost and high-end rolloff as does the SM-57. It is not "hyped" in the highs as "bright" would suggest. It's just a bit more linear.

I like the ES-57 better than the SM-57 for most every instrument mic'ing situation...actually I always like it better in that role.

On the other hand, I tend to like the SM-58 better for vocals (especially rock and male vocals) as, again, the mid-hump and freq rolloff points really do fairly well in a dense mix. The ES-58 is a great mic as well...it is, again, more linear and, as a result, in this application I prefer the Shure mic.

Bottom line is that these are no-brainer purchases.

Heres a song I just did. Used the ES-57's a lot intentionally. Just got 3 in the mail with the mic cables. This is all ES-57 and GLS cables other than kick drum and bass.

Es57 on guitar cab, snare, and spaced pair overheads.

AKG d11 on bass cabinet and kick drum.

I like the ES57's so far. Pretty good first impression but I don't think I have gotten the full impression yet. This recording was fairly rushed. Have a listen!
