hi

Erland sent me a song yesterday with acoustic and vocals..It was basically finished, but he told me to have fun with it..... so I did. :D I finished my parts the same day. I added piano and cello sounds, plus some extras.

I really enjoy his melody, so this was fun to do..

There are some unfixable problems with the mix, mix, but it was fun to do this with him, and it took no time...

He sent it yesterday and I'm posting it today because he asked me to.. :)

'hope my eyes meet you'

Earland's tune

Thanks! :D

That is positively hypnotic. The cello and piano are just perfect for the tune. Not as crazy about the violin (hand this off to DavidK) but that's a minor criticism. I'm green with envy!

This is excellent. The acoustic guitars and the cello fit in very well with each other, and the piano ain't that shabby either. What more can I say, except for that you guys made some cool shit. I'm starting to love these collaborations. The mix is great. I just can't find anything to complain. I guess this tune made me in a good mood.

cool

Erland said his computer was down. He should have started this thread because the tune was basically done when he sent it..

it's cool that you guys dont think I ruined his tune.. :)

I just had to stay out of the way of the vocals..

thanks for checkin it out Track and Crank..

I agree that real violin would be what's needed..

This is excellent, guys! Gotta get you two in the studio.

I hear a lot of semi interesting pop crap around here, but this really stands out, top notch!

Simplicity is best most of the time.

RADICAL

B.sabbath man...you didn't even come close to ruining this...what are you delusional??? :D......This is fantabulous

This one definately earns a space on my hard drive..

This is a beautiful song. I agree w/most everyone's comments.

The cello is very unique.

Going against the grain, however, at 1:00, everything but the guitar and voice ends and doesn't start again until 1:11, which seemed to be an awkward change that early in the song

Where it gets quiet after the (awesome!) instrumental break, at 2:12, sounds very natural, though...

Though it's fitting otherwise, the piano at 2:53 seems too loud, taking away from Erland's voice as it rises.

Very nice additions overall!

Great job Sam!

The instruments fit perfectly.
Mabey the acoustic guitar could come up a little.

Why don't you add some drums and your fine electric guitar playing,it's aching for it!

Man you two guys together,it's a thing of beauty!

Hope to hear more!

Best to you,
Pete

Excellent! This tune gave me the chills. Love the celtic flavor in the string solo section. Love the cello part. Love the piano riff at the beginning and end. Excellent collaboration! Very well done.

Very intuitive additions by Sam coupled with another above average song by Erland=good listening.
Nice job guys!!

Sam...I got your email...thanks for the heads up...

listening now. nice tune from Erland..for sure.
the pno opening lick is nice. I like the higher register you play in. After the first lick or so...you let the cello take over, and the pno gets put in the background. I might have let the pno go completely thru the first verse/chorus, before you introduce the cello (and now the pno IS gone in the 2nd verse, it appears...which is ok, but you lose a building factor...possibly).

Same with the violens...you might have left the cello in to keep a bottom end. The cello parts might also be a tad loud, but you've got a nice cello patch going, that's for sure. The violen patch...so-so.

At 3:19...the song appears like it fell apart, and you were forced to do a great rescue job...which you did...(if that was the case...but is sure sounded like it).

Erlands stuff really lends itself well to creating music beds behind them. I don't think you can really go overboard with the production on his stuff. I think a bridge would add a lot to his songs, as they are usually left out...they songs instead seem to usually be just ABABAB form, and elaborating more on interludes, intros, solos, seques and bridges would help alot.....but watch out for the 4 min mark on these songs.. I'd make that the limit. Give 'em just enough to want more. ..you make it a 5 minute-r....you've allowed too much.

I'll tell ya though....a song from my top two favs here....This was a treat.

Excellent work samicide. I think the piano and violins add brightness and depth around Erlands great sounding, natural vocals and acoustic guitar. The intro piano and the way the cello comes in is superb. However, I feel that the low note cello slow strings are a little to invasive at times and add too much dark mood, maybe it needs something playing in the high range to counter that? And maybe take the cello down a little? Erlands acoustic guitar could come up in the mix although I guess he sent his vocals and guitar as one file? Was it an mp3 transfer or wavs?

And I love the violins. The ending is maybe too abrupt, needs to let the piano decay more slowly.

I agree with mixmkr, the strength of Erlands music is the natural sound he gets, over producing would not be appropriate. I think you got that right.

When I first heard Erlands stuff, it immediately hit me between the eyes, after listening to all that poppy stuff, it stands out. What you have done is to take it to the next level, 1+1=3. It really is an outstanding collaboration, well done.

I don't know why, but trying to play this one crashed my browser four times! I am BUMMED, cause I want to hear it bad! I'll try again.

Meanwhile, I realised that there is a very cool situation here for some members of the board here and Erland. On one hand, Erland has great songs and a great voice. On the other, there are a bunch of musicians/producers/arrangers here that could produce instrumental tracks for Erland, then send them to him so he could do his vocals. Its just a thought, but this is a great opportunity waiting to happen.

I'm gonna see if I can play this song now....

Damn! I can't get it. Funny...the other songs on the page play fine for me. This one crashes me every time. Any idea why? Sorry, I still want to hear this track!

No prob here on a 56k. Might be your end.

On a further note, a bridge for this tune is almost mandatory!! But, what do I know.

Theron.

First, this is a great effort on your part Sam.

First verse was good.

Then the song became too "dark" IMHO. It would be great to have it "lighter" (major mode???) then the celtic lead, that I like a lot, would be great contrast. I can see where it's probably your style though.

The ending (3:00 or so) build up part is just not working for me, sorry.

I think you're too far into the future sam :D. This arrangement would be great like 10-20 years into Erlands career after we (or he himself maybe) all "fed up" with his light hearted melodies and he went off to "find himself" only to come back to where he started. :D lol

I have realy mixed feeling about this mix and arrangement. On one hand I don't like it for most part for what it adds to the song, but I like it a lot for creativeness and thinking "outside the box" if you will and that it pushes the limit IMHO.

cheers

Erland, you've become my favorite artist and I listen to a lot of music and I'm picky as hell. I'll buy your first album and I'll get an extra copy for everyone I know. For now it's nice to have you here cause it's fun to hear something great before it grows into something famous. Ignore the knocks you're getting around here about song structure and whatnot. You've heard it before, but you've got something that cannot go unnoticed for much longer.

Samicide, nice piano playing. I had you pegged as a guitar player.

This sounds like a pretty impressive arrangement to me. That cello was nice. And the piano sound was pretty good on the high end. I assume it's a synth, but it sounds pretty damn close to the real thing to me. If we have any violinists or cellists on the board, I think you should send them the sheet music and let them have at it.

Constructive feedback (remembering that I'm nobody from nowhere with nothing of his own):
1. Lose the synth choir voices.
2. Cut all instruments out at :58 where Erland switches up on the guitar rythm.
3. There were just a couple places where you slipped into minor mode (I think by habit?) and Erland was still in major mode.
4. I think the violins and cello were trading spots throughout the song but you could have assembled them together more. That synth choir could be replaced with the violins so you have more of a three voice string ensemble sound going on throughout.

These latest collaborations are really cool. I'd like to see more of that around here. Great work overall! Thanks for posting it.

Real nice song. Great singing as usual. Great instrument selection Sam.

How about harmonies (I always say that)? I think that would be the icing on the cake.

I suppose I would have personally prefered a guitar solo in the middle instead of the violin.

nice job sami......
Tastefully done! You put just the right amount of "color" to Erlands fine song. I believe that you are a fellow 788 user, right? I was wondering what you were using for your strings, etc. Is it a stand-alone synth, or are you using a 'puter as well. I would be interested in knowing. Another example of a great collaboration. ....great stuff fellas, mike:cool:
