mix, cant you tell a drunken fool?

My sincere apologies, I was very drunk. I am having some tough times, my girlfriend is really sick, I mean Bigtime stuff.

Pay no attention to the drunk dude, I am truly sorry. I dont give a shit about the music, I just want her healthy.

I tried to put a different mix up, I dont know if it worked. My girlfriend has a rare blood thingee happening, so my posts are null and void. I humbly apologize, this has been a really bad day.

no problems David.. sometimes the typed word doesn't express things best. All the best with your girlfriend too.

I'll bet this'll make Crawdad cry now...eh?

Whew...civility has been restored.LOL....you hit the nail on the head about the typed word Mixmkr.......it's hard to convey a thought on this world wide web sometimes without it being construed as something it's not.

Thanx Mix.

Serious shit. A rare blood disorder deal, not good. I havent been wasted in a long time, but I lost it tonight. She is really sick.

REM- Shmrem, the first recording sucked.

Lately, I am a Teepee AND a Wigwam. I am Two Tents ( Get it, I am too tense). Deeply concerned about my girlfriend, she is very sick and we dont have health insurance. Cheers, Dave

Actually, that was a nice resolution there. If I was gonna cry, it would be for David's girlfriend. I truly hope she finds the help she needs. In times like these, David, I agree--fuck the music and concentrate on what is most important.

david k, i'm sorry about your girlfriend.

now about that violin, i bet that thing sounds great in a real studio. You can really hear the wood, it's just the room that's causing trouble with the mix imo. actually i think this arrangement would sound beautiful if the three of you were all in David's room. i mean it sounds beautiful as is but you can hear three separate elements. David's kitchen, Erland's room, and Jeff's sound more like a processed environment.

So here's my play by play after three listens.
1. I love Jeff's opening guitar stuff. That's just sublime.
2. see violin comments above. except i do think the stiffness that mixmkr refers to might actually have to do with your mic. the attack of the first notes sounds a little abrupt imo, but that could be because you're using a mic that doesn't really allow you to accurately capture the full dynamic range of your playing. i also listen to a lot of very good recordings of classical violin, and there is a lot of detail to capture that probably isn't coming through....just a thought.
3. This one I should have posted in erland's orignial thread but TURN UP THOSE BACKING VOCALS. That stuff has genius in it. There was a hint of the kind of stuff on Paul Simon's Graceland album there. Maybe I'm the only one who heard that and was stunned by how absolutely cool it sounds.
4. The congas sound great. Triton sounds? Damn they make some realistic sounding congas. I'm just adding up the dollars I'd need to spend to do real congas right now and......maybe I'll just buy a triton. I mean the bass guitar that Guernica cranked out of that thing was awsome! ;)
5. Jeff, I think some of the rythm guitar that you're playing is clashing with Erland. Maybe it's cause I heard his first but, I'd like to just hear his rythm guitar alone with just your tasty licks added.
6. The more I listen, the more that violin is really jumping through the mix, as is the guitar. Erland is getting lost, but without having separate vocal tracks it's hard to get him up front with this much going on.
7. Jeff that stuff at 1:17 is your shit! I love it when you do that.
8. I think the bridge could use a nice dual violin arrangement. Maybe not.
9. Jeff, that took some guts adding the solo section to the song. I think it works. pretty cool.
10. nice stuff both of you. i was working on something that's about as different from this as I can imagine. maybe some day i'll post it? this just sounds so classy to me that i'm afraid I won't.

11. Jeff, I'm glad you removed the triton boys choir from your first mix. That was disturbing to me for some reason.

David .. I hope your girlfriend gets better

Ive seen your name around here before… and I noticed you jumped in on the collab. Cool! Boy this song is getting thrown around like a potato :)
Sorry I couldn’t reply sooner, ive been helping my brother remodel his house.
I liked your additions… you can play that violin well.

That’s weird ... I was working on Dust in the Wind by Kansas and was getting towards the violin part.. let me know if youd want to take a stab at that when you get some time.

Also.. a singer might sound better than the instrumental version… if anybody wants to volunteer

Hey this sounds great...especially for an "add-on" kinda collab. Obviously the vocals need to come up, but you'd have to back track a bit to do it.

Great song Erland, and great tracks from Jeff and David! Beautiful vox!

LOL LOL

Yup, bring those old vocals up. 1.5? 2.0? Sluice's right.

You know why? Cuz I haven't clocked the lyrics yet, that's why. There's a great big old guitar way out in front is the reason. Yup. A-yep.

At this point, it's like the vocal's sorta hiding out a bit.

Good violin too.

My best wishes to your girlfriend, Dave. Hope she's getting well soon. Have a little look in a positive view, this could be your best time to capture the feeling inside. Confusion and sadness. Cooked with violins will be heart touching masterpiece. I'm downloading the song by now, I'll post the comment latter... however, if it's good enough, perhaps we shall consider to put it on the next HR.Comp CD project. Be strong Dave. Keep up a good work three of you !!!
;)

Hey JMarcomb, I'd try that violin part on Dust in the Wind. Not to step on anyone's toes, I'd never do it if that would happen. I've never done anything like this--collaborating, but I'd try it. Maybe you could try both and blend them even, somehow. I don't even think that I'm at all good yet at this recording stuff, but I can sing. And I did just buy some new equipment. How to use it? Still figuring that all out. ;)

Anyway, I'm always an intruder, but you have to be sometime, I suppose. Sorry!

Kirstin

Do you play violin? AWESOME! I would love to hear it, very cool.

I played with Kansas a few times, nice guys.

No, I can't play violin. I was talking about singing the part. I have tried to play the violin, though. It sounded pretty bad. Hee hee.

Kirstin

JMarcomb,

You knew I was talking about singing, right? If not, send me that violin, I'll come up with something. :D

K.

Hey Jeff, I'll step down and let Kgirl do the vocals....I wouldn't mind a crack at mixing it though, if you want to send me the bundle. It would be fun for me...

PM me if you want,,

Now I feel bad. Sluice, you don't have to step down, if you wanna do it, go ahead. I didn't want to butt in line.

But, y'all let me know. I may sound like shit anyhoo.

Thanks!
Kirstin

p-scha. Nope, sluice, I've heard your stuff. Don't even try that. Let someone who really might screw it up say that. If you mix it, be prepared to know that while a track sounds fine to me, I have no idea what I'm really even listening for. The levels may need some serious help.

And, I may not even really hit those higher notes. In which case, none of y'all are hearin' me!!!!!!

Cool, though, let's all do something with it.

Kirstin

DavidK......my prayers for your girlfriend. I hope you'll let us know how she's doing.

As for the violin.....I thought it added a lot to the song and as for the sound.....to tell you the truth; it sounded a lot like any rock or pop song that I've heard violin added to. Check out Rod Stewarts' tunes that have violin in them. They all have that close-mic'ed; not in the same room sound. For me, the sound was just about right. Uh-Oh, I guess I just exposed my ignorance.
