Ok, I've been playing around with my new Tampa preamp (very nice) and an MXL 991. So I decided to do a little test with some acoustic git.

Wish You Were Here
http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/album.php?aid=4750&alid=-1

[0:00 to 0:35]
Left - 6 String track 1
Right - 6 String track 2
80 lo cut

[0:36 to 1:12]
Left - 6 String track 1
Right - 6 String track 2
Center - 12 String track 3
80 lo cut and heavy compression on 12-String

Aside from some sloppy playing, is this worthy of spending the track time, or does it sound like I need an upgraded soundcard and mic?

I found Wish You Were Here on your site...Is that the one? To me it sounds excellent. I really like the sound. You must have just changed it. I still feel it is a great sound. You seemed to capture it very well. I personally hear no problems. It is very crisp, and real sounding.

Thanks Dogman...I was going for an intimate sound. However, I think the 12-string track is going to be removed...it makes stuff sound out of tune for some reason.

Thanks Chattbox1, no slide on this tune, but there will some acoustic solos. Thanks for the feedback.

Sounds good David. Sounds like there might be some HF emphasis going on with the room. Is your tracking room treated?

Nice sound David. Cut off at 1:13...was it ment to do that? How you liking the Tampa?

Not yet. I'm building a studio room over the next few weeks. Just finalizing some plans. Then I'll have some treatment.

I really really really like it. Thanks again for the recommendation. After listening to some older stuff that I did, there is quite a difference. Yes, the cutoff was intentional...this was just a test to see if the sound was ok. I'll be retracking the whole song soon.

All I need now is a good vox mic, room treatment and an upgraded sound card. :)

And so the gear lust begins! :D

Nicely played. I think the 12-String fills it out well kind of like a steady brush on the drums (make sense?). There is a bit of HF happening there - it could be eq'd maybe until you satisfy that gear lust! Christmas is coming - have you been good? lol....

ido1957...'no', I have not been good. That means I have to buy my own gear :( Thanks for the feedback.

Well...there's good news and bad news:

Good News 1 : I am still testing my new Tampa...it's shaping up more as I learn to use it.

Bad News 1 : Since this was just a test, I didn't track the whole thing
Bad News 2 : I just ripped up my basement for some acoustic insulation...now I cannot finish tracking this song until the construction is done

Anyway, I'm really excited about how this turned out (even with some mistakes...can't fix 'em yet)

Someone on this forum turned me onto this song many months ago, and I didn't realize how cool it was until now.

Again...sorry it's not finished yet. It'll be several weeks, but here's an update if your interested.
