i record from drum mics through a mackie 1402 VLZ, then after that i go into yamaha 2816. Should I equalize the toms and cymbals on the mackie or the workstation or both. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Use mic selection and placement so that you don't have to EQ.... that's step one....
If you still can't get the sound you want, add some EQ... but be spare with it.... and you'll get better results by cutting frequencies you don't want rather than boosting the ones you do!
