I need help equing vocals for my rap group. I know to cut anything below 100hz but thats about it. I really would like to hear from those who have experience equing hip hop vocals. thanks

P.S. I dont need to hear the generic comments, like "just play around and find what sounds good." No offense but i need more direction than that.

try adding a little 2k for more clarity. Take a little 300-400 hz out if it sounds smeared. What is wrong with the sound that it need eq?

Here is a bunch of stuff about terms, types, suggestions, frequencies, etc.
Best to know what things mean first. It really is too broad to make any firm suggestions. Like Farview pointed out, if you know how different frequency ranges affect recorded voice, it helps address whatever problems a specific voice has, and gives you an idea how to achieve specific sounds. Is it screaming hip-hop? Trippy? Whispered? Each will have it's own characteristics and treatments.

EQ

what did you use to record the vox?

Did you equalize the vox on the way into the recorder?

Post a clip of your vox sound in question.

I find a narrow deep cut around 900hz tends to clean up a lot of men's voices; apply a similar cut on females around 3200hz.
