what do you think... a track is too bassy ...lets chisel a bit off there ...that guitar is sitting on top of the bass and kick drum ...lets chip that little part off....

does anyone agree with me that mixing can be compared to sculpting ?

oh and yes i am drunk ...but i do know what i am talking about ! :D

EQ on acoustic instruments

I think, on the whole, mixing is song sculpting but I think EQ itself morhps the sound more than sculpts it. The unamplified guitar stuff that I record sounds sweeter and richer to me if I don't use EQ, but control the sound of a track by mic & pre selection, placement and room acoustics. And it's not that I'm some kind of purist, because I'd use whatever got me a better sound. Times that I do use EQ, it's more to try to repair something that I should have really tracked differently.

I hear mixes of electric instruments differently that way though, and can see the usefulness of EQ there.
