Hey, i was wondering if I get an external EQ device (currently I'm just using an EQ software program) Should i put it in with a single instroment or should i add it to the total mix down, or should i set it up so i can switch from instroment to instroment? thxs

PS. how important is it for a rack to have a voltage regulator?

I'd submit that if the entire mix needed EQ, there's something that should be addressed at the track level.

(PS) Do you mean a true voltage regulator, or a simple power condidtioner?

a true voltage regulator, and thanxs for the EQ tip, so basically your saying i should EQ it before i record right?

thxs

It means it's good to get it right at the track level (preferably with minimum eq where you can) rather than try to fix something after it's in the mix where you would be compromising other things that don't need 'that' eq.
Whether that is done at tracking or at mix time depends a lot on the equipment you have (for tracking vs mixing) and if whether you know what's needed right off or would be better making those calls once you hear it in the mix.
+ or - (more or less) :D
