Epi Les Paul Selector Switch

I just had my first "Les Paul" and have some questions regarding the selector switch. I was under the impression that the when the switch is set to middle, both pickup should be turned on. Correct?

The rhythm and treble setting works but when I try switch to the middle setting and set the rhythm's volume to low (off) and turn the treble up, I can the treble's sound. However, I'm not getting any sound if the do the opposite (rhythm up, treble low). It seems that the middle setting is the same as the treble. Is this normal?

The pickup is a 3 Dimarzio super distortion.

An easy way to tell if a pickup is on is to touch a pole piece with a small screwdriver. It causes a change in the magnetic field that will give a click in the amp. Another is a putting a small tuning fork near the pup in question. The pup will pickup the tuning fork's vibration.

Maybe your knobs don't work like you think they do.

With Gibson style wiring, you have to have some volume on both pickups in order for the pickups to work properly. You should never have either volume control at 0, unless the selector is in the treble or rhythm position. I used to have an SG that I thought was defective until a tech explained it to me. Your Epi is performing perfectly up to spec. Fender guys won't get it.-Richie

I do both but I'm more of a lefty.. I think.. Man, I never realized that observation. I went ahead and checked how people do that smiley; lo and behold, I always do mine opposite.
