frogfroggg said:I,m glad someone got on to 'envelopes'..... I know I am missing the point of them somehow and hoped somebody could explain their benefits.
For example if I want a volume swell at a certain point in a track at the moment I would just clip it and increase the volume of the clip. What use would an envelope be here ?
If, for example, I wanted to fade the end of a guitar solo out to the right, I would use two tracks at moment one panned where ever I wanted the guitar solo and another track panned to the right and I would fade the solo out this way...
Is the main point of envelopes to conserve cpu etc or do they use as much cpu etc as other methods...
Eagerly awaiting replies as I know I am going to learn something.
Also note that clip envelopes are befor the effects insert point. Something to watch for with a compressor patched in.dachay2tnr said:I think what you want James is a Clip Envelope. The clip envelope is expressed in + and - db's rather than absolute db's.
Therefore, you can put a clip envelope on a track, and then in a certain section decrease the volume by -4 db, without effecting the fader setting.
Try it and let me know if this is what you are talking about.
(You'll find clip envelopes on the envelope menu when you right click on the track. Also, they do not run the entire length of the track - only the length of the clip you are adding them to. Of course, if the track is just one clip, they do run the length of the track.)
Wayne - you can put an envelope on a V-Main. You do it just like you would on a track.mixsit said:But am I right in assuming that you can automate the main faders, but not visually with an envelope? (And there is no way to see it anywhere, other than the control movement?)
dachay2tnr said:I just posted a song in the clinic that has a fade-out and also has gradually increasing reverb during the fade. That is, as the volume slowly drops the wetness of the verb slowly increases. Nice effect and it was accomplished with two envelopes on the V-Main (a volume envelope and an FX envelope).

In fact, to accomplish a fade-out on the entire song, that's the place to do it.

Or am I not understanding your question correctly?
Then there is something I am missing out on. Where do v-main, effects and other knob enveolpes appear?
