I got an email advertisement from a CD maker. It offered to master my stuff for $190 if I got my CDs pressed with them. Here's what they offered by way of mastering:
"What post production can do for you:
* Raise your CD's overall level.
* Even out song levels and EQ individual tracks for cohesion.
* Correct minor mix deficiencies with equalization.
* Enhance flow by changing the space between tracks.
* Eliminate noises between tracks."
I've never done any of this yet, but I know I could do it with a bit of software costing about the price they're charging. Plus I don't have to get 1000 CDs made, either, which is just as well because I know a grand total of about two dozen people who would be interested to hear what I'm up to musically these days.
"Enhance the flow by changing the space between tracks."
Gimme a break.
