King of Bling
Hi. This is supposed to be the last track on a CD I'm working on... It's kinda' folky..ish

IT'S ALSO REALLY LONG AND DRAWN OUT, SO DON'T EVEN BOTHER IF YOU HAVE STUFF TO DO IN THE NEXT HOUR OR SO.

The outro is about 3 minutes long, lol. Sorry about that.

Drums - Bulls Hit
Electric guitars - DougH and blindeddie

I should learn peoples' real names.

ANYWAY, I know the mix has got issues, but I'd love to hear what anybody thinks. Thanks.

I had to play bass on it, and I suck, but at least I was playing a $45 (shortneck) Bass. Go Me.

Very nice work.
Once the "band" starts up it has a Hotel California vibe.
When you have the 2 fem vox happening there are some spots where neither is particuarly clear. You'll have to commit to one or the other & lift it. There's a bit of fader riding to do vox wise throughout though.
Nice collaboration too - it's a good way to work.
This is a very, very promising piece. I look forward to follow ups.

Mr. Harris!
How goes it sir?

Good tune!.
Lead vox are a little stuffy sounding.
If you have one, try a multi-band-comp and push those mids down across the board a little (2-3db) like say from 100hz-3k then boost the ends of the eq spectrum (3k and up, and 100hz and down) and see if that dosent help.
Its what i do for female vox and seems to get the best tone.

Again great song.

Ray - thanks a ton, man. Yeah, the vocals get blurry as hell. I think I can fix them...or mute them, LOL!! :D The truth is, I screwed up the original outro vocal tracks pretty badly...that compression is on them permanently. I just made an error on a save. They're flat out distorting ... but I'm kinda' getting used to it and I think I'm gonna' tell people I distorted them on purpose because I'm being edgy, lol.

XF - you really have some amazing ears. I'm listening to it in the C4 right now doing just about exactly what you suggested and I think it's gonna' sound a lot better. I'll update the link soon. Thanks a lot

Oh, well if youve got the C4, just load the "pop vocal" preset, and tweak it from there.

Nice tune....I was wondering where it was heading. The change is really cool. Not what I was really expecting. Nice drum sound...the vocals do seem to clash a bit there, but it's also sort of cool and hectic for a moment, then carries on. I personally like that it got a bit convoluted...just added some mystery to what was going on.

Probably one of my favorites I've heard from you guys. The change and buildup were cool.

This song is sweeeet :)

Recording quality and playing is very good.
The male vocals are slightly off timing and a tiny tiny tiny bit off tune, some nasal frequency going on there too I think.

# 3.39 the backing ''hey hey'' @ the right is a bit too loud

Though it is a nice production idea, it goes on for too long.

Kickdrum could use some sub-bass 40-60 hz.

Overall the sound is swwwwweeet dude.

Keep on bringing these pro sounding mixes up ;)

dogman...THANKS! What I like about it and that "chaos" vibe is that there are places where it feels like it's gonna' fall apart, but it never really does. I think that's a consequence of a lot of the parts being played in isolation. I asked people to just upload the tracks without doing their own mixes, so each part was really independent and people didn't worry about walking on each others' toes. I kinda' wish it had more stuff in it, but I don't think I've got time to add any more tracks...maybe piano for the first part; that'd be sweet!!

Blor007 - thanks for taking the time to get detailed. Great ears...I had cut the kick below 50 because it was rumbling pretty badly, but I've added a bit back in...I kinda' V'd out the current mix (uploaded 4 minutes before I posted this). I did some vocal enveloping on this mix, but it's getting harder because I'm getting USED to how the vocal parts sound, even where they're just wrong, LMAO.

Though it is a nice production idea, it goes on for too long.

Yeah, it really is. I keep thinking I'm going to fade it, but I can't bring myself to cut out some of the stuff at the end. I think I've resigned myself to letting it stay too long since it's the last track. Thank god CD's have a "next" button. :D

Besides, I can't seem to open up the session file anymore, which bums me out. I think I'm going to have to rebuild it from scratch. That last upload could be it for awhile.

Nice work Chris!

My only real nit is the lead vox, as others have already pointed out. It's such a great performance, but it sounds like it's got a blanket over the mic or something.

Sounds like you've got that covered though.

Looking forward to the final version! :D

i like this. the acoustics are sorta doing poppy wank stuff...but the lead vox are an amazing performance. they need a little something in the eq...thuogh i'm not listening to this very loud. i was thinking a bit of reverb, and a little. little, peak in the high-highs somewhere.

i thought the build up was a little too drawn out. i wish the song was shorter ...it kinda gets cluttered, and some of the guitar performances get wacky with the beat. i don't even know if the second half is needed.

i think an alternate tuning would help this thing out a ton. same key though.

ever heard over the rhine? the voice is very similar. i love the woman's voice. i hate their production though. but they're this genre for sure.

Man, thanks a lot for that link. Beautiful songs. Noisy recordings with even more compression than I use, which is almost impossible. Their singer is amazingly good, and those songs are right in the middle of everything I love about Americana.

Yeah seems to be unanimous that I gotta' figure out some better chain for the vocal. It'll get there...always takes time, and input , which I greatly appreciate.

That is a really nice piece going on there. Songwise, I wouldn't change a thing. The acoustic guitars and vocals together give it the power and honesty that the song needs. I'm always amazed by the quality of recordings that some of the people on this board can do.
:)
