Well I am like on the verge of purchasing an Emu 1820... But there is one thing that concerns me.

My previous DAW (the one I use now) is a piece of garbage. Its a Tascam US-428. I've had it for a while, and have not used it for a long time. Basically why I stopped using it was one main reason....I wasn't able to record more than one channel at once (i.e. Vocals and Guitar). Also I just didn't like the overall sound quality and MIDI latency probs it had too.

My question to you Emu 1820 users is: Does the 1820 have issues with recording more than one channel at the same time? And I have heard sound samples of the 1820 in action (quite impressed), but what about MIDI latency? Is this a big problem? Cause I would like to use MIDI for soft synths and my keyboard.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I have no problem with MIDI latency. I currently record with an XV-3080 and a Proteus PK-6 with no problem. I also record their outputs on separate stereo pairs as well as mics, both the included and from my Behringer ADAT pre with no problem. I also go heavy on vsampler with no problem.

www.apocalypsewow.com Half of the demo reel was done on the 1820, recording multiple outboard modules and using plenty of softsynths in Sonar 3 Producer. My crappy voice was also using the onboard pre with a CAD M179.

don't mind if I ask a question too....

can you use both digital i/o's at the same time? If that's possible I may order one by the end of the week.

nice music, my 9 years old daughter asked me: "what's that? That's cool"

Technical question: why would one do that, recording keys through a mic?

Thanks!

I've not used both digital IOs simultaneously, though I guess as long as things are properly slaved, it should work. The Emu will actually listen on the SPDIF (either coax or optical) even if the clocks aren't sync, which is a change from the M-audio.

Oh, I don't typically record keys through mics. I do record group VO recording. I can imagine there are some things that would be desirable to amp and mic the amp... rhodes piano, crunching synth leads... I don't do that myself...

I wonder why your US-428 wouldn't record more than 1 track? Perhaps there wasnt enough USB bandwidth? I have a 428 and it works fine (all 4 tracks at once). It will get demoted to "controller only" status once I get my 1820 though, as it's guts are higher quality and lower latency.
