hey everyone.

so i am producing and mixing other bands now. this is the first one i worked with. it is also the first time i have recorded live drums. we did the tracking in two days for 4 songs... and they had nothing but reallllly crappy gear. however I think it turned out pretty great...

I'd love to get some opinions on the recording and the mix...

A Cadence of Sorts

Download "And How We'd Give Her the Moon"

Thanks!!

Hey, nice job there actually. Can i get the mp3's of the songs?

Quality of the mixing sounds good, thats from listening from headphones tho. Not in the studio right now, but it sounds excellent.

Just personal opinon here, but I feel like the drums have a little too much compression. Other than that, sounds really good.

its real good. overall im focusing on the drums, it's just a bit too compressed i'll agree, but beautiful snare sound. what type of plate did u use? the drums weren't too bad of a gear were they?

Mach5, please check your PM messages.

Btw, next time you record a band, if they don't play perfectly ontime, make them record the parts over and over till they get it down perfect. It's a one time perfect proformance, there are just times in the second song posted where the guitar wasn't quite on time.

PLEASE PLEASE send me the mp3 files!

Just contact me. :) Thanks.

As mentioned earlier... too much compression on the drums; and the compression is *BADLY SET*. High hats have too much high end, total ice pick in the ears.

I'm detecting some limiting abuse. I'm suspecting that the "mastering" is really screwing this up.

IMHO you need to go back to square two: remix and remaster. The way it sounds now it is bad.

Did I record Copeland? not the full lengths. But I am in the band..

Cloneboy- ouch. sounds THAT bad huh? i am aware about the compression issue on the drums. again.. this was my first time with live drums. the drummer was not very good and his kit was a real piece of crap. I was trying anything i could to make it sound better. live and learn..

Understandable, but I think the mixing/production is making bad into worse.

Keep at it--drums are not for the faint of heart. :)

Hot damn!

I saw you guys at TLA and the Troc in Philly a while back. Great shows.

You guys are up there in my favorite bands.

wow yeah.. that was a good year or so ago. good times..

we have a new record that comes out March 22. more good times..

Yeah, I really like beneath medicine tree. Ive missed you guys a couple of times in lubbock, tx. For some reason, I cant stand emo, but really dig your band. Great stuff! Pick it up you people!! What are your future touring schedule?

going to Japan in march and some random CD release shows here in the US. then a full US headlining tour in april. no confirmed dates yet.

If you ever need an opener in Philly.. let me know. ;)

Mach 5, can i get the mp3 files for the bands songs please? a candice of sorts.. please?

i'm a fan of the genre you've recorded here, i must say i really can't complain about the recording here.

Hey, just wanted to chime in,

I'm a huge Copeland fan. Beneath Medicine Tree was my favorite "find" of last year. It's really a benchmark CD as far as "meshing" the entire mix with the song. Also saw you guys open up for Switchfoot (you blew em off the stage) and then headline yourselves at the Quest in Minneapolis last year.

I really dig the vocal sound on "And How...", it's very reminiscent of Knapsack, works well for the genre. The mix between the vocals and harmonies is dead-on, IMO. I think everyone else is right-on about the drums, needs a little less compression, especially regarding the hihat.

Come to think of it, how did you mic the drums? Can you pull down the overheads a tich or are the toms/snare not separately mic'd?

And might I pick your brain at all on the "Beneath" recordings? :)
