Surely the POD is just adding mud and or noise?

Post up a sample of a simple bass signal through the Joe Meek alone, and then the version with some POD mixed in. I'd be interested to hear it and why you might be doing it!

I'd be interested to hear the unmixed stuff, as I've heard your tone in songs....I think it fits well, whatever you do... :cool:

That, in a nutshell, was exactly what I was talking about. I originally started out on a cassette machine, and have since "upgraded" to digital. Digital is easy, convenient, et al.

But the tone just isn't the same. My big pain is that I can't reproduce that analog tone on a digital machine, no matter how much I try... :(
