I for one don't completely object to the squeaks but, especially when close micing it can be too much of a distraction. If the squeaks are proportunate to the sound of the notes, they can add a tasty, live flavor.
I find that my scratch the dog approach (talc power on the hands...lightly applied of course works similarly) tames down the squeaks considerably but doesn't always elimiate them.
